The Candidate shall primarily provide support to ATC Aberdeen, Proving Ground for the Machine shop and CNC design lab. Support in this area will include numerous tasks which are dissimilar in nature, but have in common Computer Numerical Control design and layout for the machine shop. Design, drawing and machining of metallic and non-metallic materials / components to make completed assemblies per blueprints IAW assigned print tolerances. Candidate will perform all essential duties and responsibilities at the direction of the site Program Manager and Work Lead as appropriate.

Essential duties and responsibilities include: Program requirements on mills and lathes to include entering instructions,zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, conditional switches, proving part programs and troubleshooting code. Provide mill and lathe hardware set up by installing appropriate chucks, vise, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, bar feeder. Monitor equipment operation to ensure tolerance specifications are met by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations. Adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes by verifying component characteristics to detect malfunctions requiring adjusting and reprogramming, sharpening and replacing of worn tools. Interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Use precision measuring instruments such as electronic gauging equipment (i.e. calipers, gauge blocks, dial bore gauges and depth gauges) in setting-up and machining work to required tolerances. Operate multiple machines simultaneously including pulling and loading raw stock. Perform daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on CNC machinery. Perform tasks and functions on manual shop equipment including mills, lathes, drill presses, saws and hand tools. Perform bench work to finish, fit and assemble machined parts.

Candidates will also assist in the organization and maintenance of the machine shop work environment to include keeping work areas in a clean and sanitary condition which shall include being required to empty trash from office/shop trash cans to dumpsters. And provide snow and ice removal for sidewalks at Government-shared facility’s as required. Care for and control all tools issued for use in support of the contract, ensuring they are maintained in serviceable condition, used properly, identified for replacement when necessary, and controlled against unauthorized use, loss or theft. Perform pre-operational checks, services and ensure Mobile Equipment Utilization Records (trip tickets) have been completed prior to operation of the Government vehicles and equipment. When operating or utilizing vehicles and equipment, ensure that they are secured whenever unattended in accordance with company, contract and APG requirements. Employee will report all time worked accurately and in accordance with contract requirements and company policy.



  • Possess the ability to load CAM designs into equipment or independently program, set up, and operate computer numerical control (CNC) mill and lathe equipment to produce finished machined test components

  • Experience with algebra, trigonometry and geometry, as well as geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)

  • Be able to efficiently program and operate the following equipment utilizing G code and canned cycles:

  • Mori Seiki Lathe NL1500, with MSX control

  • Takisawa Lathe TS-30, with Fanuc OT control

  • Fortune Lathe VTurn 26, with Fanuc OT control

  • Haas Machining Center VF4, and VF2, with Haas control

  • Doosan Machining Center MV4020, MYNX 5400,

  • Mori Seiki Machining Center MV55, with Yasnac control

  • Olympia Horizontal Mill HT140x100, with Heidenhain iTNC 530 control

  • ProtoTrak with SMX and SLX control


  • High School diploma

  • 5 years related experience

  • Experience with a variety of CNC and NC machine control systems.

  • Analyze engineering data and tolerances to determine most effective processes, using various CAM CAD software packages.

  • Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan operations where procedural information is unavailable.

  • Performance of this effort may require access to classified information or areas up to the SECRET level; therefore must possess or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance.

  • When required to operate mobile equipment (such as Government owned pickup trucks, forklifts, other material handling equipment and cranes), shall be able to be licensed and certified in accordance with State of Maryland, certified according to Army, APG and ATC requirements and possess a Contractor Operator’s Permit as required and ensure that they are secured whenever unattended in accordance with company, contract and APG requirements. o Properly operate communications equipment in accordance with AR 25-1.


  • Some lifting up to 75 pounds required.

  • Constant visual awareness is necessary due to moving parts.

  • Within the work environment, there may be potential for expose to various hazards to include: noise, radiation, depleted uranium, laser, explosives, respiratory and other hazardous materials, therefore all employees must:

  • Follow requirements for personal protective equipment to include safety boots, respirators, hearing and eye protection and other IPE/PPE as required.

  • Submit to a urinalysis and/or in-vivo lung scan and laser eye examinations on a random basis.

  • Participate in and successfully complete all Government required training on an as needed basis when working in specific areas. (Radiation Training, HAZCOM, Depleted Uranium, CPR, 1st Aid, etc.)

  • Travel may be required.
