The McKesson Enterprise Content Management organization is seeking a skilled Agile Product Owner (Agile PO) to help lead teams in the definition of complete software that solves customer business needs. The Agile PO must be decisive in communicating a strategic vision that aligns to customer need. In this capacity, the Agile PO is responsible for setting the direction of his/her teams and for providing a groomed and prioritized backlog of Minimally Marketable Features (MMFs) and user stories that align to the strategy. They must lead teams to work quickly and deliberately to make decisions effecting the team while maintaining quality and a focus on the customer. To this end, the Agile PO must work well in a time-boxed environment quickly making decisions that complement the overall velocity of the team. The agile PO is responsible for keeping stakeholders apprised of project status and portfolio changes.
First and foremost, the Agile PO is a leader of team(s). With implicit authority, the Agile PO must lead the efforts of his/her teams based upon the strategic relevance and value defined for the customer. Likewise, the Agile PO is responsible for tactical discipline by ensuring Minimally Marketable Features (MMFs) are well defined and prioritized so they may be consumed by their teams. This prioritization must be established based upon the overall strategy of the business and the value for the customer. In order to ensure customer value is achieved, the Agile PO is responsible for sponsoring the “definition of done” and for prescribing the acceptance criteria that defines acceptable value to the customer. Finally, the Agile PO is the final authority on acceptance of delivered code against user stories and makes the final decision regarding the completeness of delivered software. Agile POs must work with stakeholders to ensure that the business is kept informed of the state of the product portfolio. This will include communication of the vision, strategy, release roadmap and status of projects against prescribed milestones. Agile POs will work with customer project stakeholders to ensure an optimal customer testing process. This will include facilitation of customer acceptance testing and working with the customer to disposition issues. As an expert in their domain, the Agile PO must work to stay relevant regarding current and emerging customer needs. To do so, the Agile PO must create opportunities for education in their industry, amongst their competitors and within their customer’s environments. Information gained here must be used to help to define and/or course correct strategies while validating the prioritization of backlogs. Agile POs must work across organizational boundaries. In doing so, they must mine for inputs that govern prioritization of backlogs. To this end, Agile POs must be able to work in a variety of environments and with a variety of personalities. Agile POs must have excellent communication skills with the ability to provide insights and leadership at many levels within the organization, both upward to executive level leaders and downward within their teams. The Agile PO works closely with the Agile Business Analyst (Agile BA) to ensure universal understanding of the strategy, the decisions that impact prioritization of MMFs and user stories, and the criteria against which software is accepted.
This position will perform the following:
Operates as a leader of team(s) responsible for maximizing the return on investment of development effort
Responsible for defining, refining and communicating the product vision
Responsible for working with internal and external customers and end users to define Minimally Marketed Features (MMFs) that address customer business needs and return value
Responsible for grooming the backlog of defined MMFs applying prioritization that defines the order in which teams consume work
Communicate business and customer value to the team in a manner that sparks innovative thought
Works closely with Agile team members, particularly the Agile Business Analyst, and is the final arbiter of requirements conflicts and/or questions
Works to define the acceptance criteria for user stories
Accepts/rejects the delivered code from within each Sprint
Work with customer stakeholders to facilitate customer acceptance testing of project releases
Responsible for making ongoing decisions to continue development down the current path
Makes the final decision whether or not to ship product to customers
Often contributes as a team member performing other roles within the team, as needed
Communicate portfolio and project updates to business stakeholders
3+ years of product management experience
Agile product ownership experience in software development environment
Experience soliciting requirements from customers, building business cases, evaluating customer priorities and creating a release based on business value
Ability to travel up to 20%
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Additional Skills and Knowledge
Document management/content management experience
Ability to analyze and synthesize data
Knowledge of market trends and Agile best practices
MBA preferred in Marketing, Business or related field or equivalent experience
