Primary Purpose:

Summer Internship Program is designed Provide the following to students: 1) experience in a working environment; 2) meaningful work assignments; 3) introduction to Black & Veatch corporate culture; 4) chance to network with experienced executives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop, evaluate, and design specifications and contract drawings. Perform variety of tasks to support engineering analyses, report production, and designs. Prepare basic calculations. Coordinate with other disciplines. Schedule project deliverables. Collect, organize, and evaluate data. Analyze systems utilizing computer modeling. Organize and file project materials and references.; Individual contributor with no subordinates.

Work with assigned engineer to assist in the following tasks: Develop structure load calculations, prepare or modify structure drawings for fabrication, check shop drawings from structure manufacturer, work on foundation design for transmission and substation structures, perform basic t-line modeling activities in PLS-CADD including stringing wires, running clearance reports based

on written or verbal instructions, and structural analysis and design of substation structures. Learn and maintain a working knowledge of project and company CAD standards. Understanding of engineering design processes and document control procedures. Tasks to include: transmission line and substation civil/structural conceptual and detail design.

Assist assigned engineer in structural designs including: calculations, analysis, layout for the purpose of creating design deliverables, etc. Prepares specs and coordinates structural design effort with other disciplines. Evaluates and reviews manufacturers or contractor submittals.

Assignments are in conjunction with engineering, procurement, planning, designing, and construction of electrical generating power plants (Power Gen) and electrical transmission infrastructure (Power Delivery).

Minimum Qualifications:

No experience required. Current enrollment in an ABET accredited university in a Civil Engineering program with emphasis in Structural Engineering.

•Power Delivery Substation Civil: Civil Engineering degree

•Power Delivery Substation Structural: Civil Engineering degree with Structural coursework emphasis

•Power Delivery T-Line: Civil, Structural, or Mechanical with Structural coursework emphasis

Preferred Job Qualifications:

Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, Intellectual Horsepower, Excellent Written and Oral Communication skills, Proficient computer skills, Drive For Results, Decision Quality, Informing, Listening, Dealing with Ambiguity, Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline Basic industry and technology trends knowledge. Basic knowledge of company quality program. Basic knowledge of construction & constructability practices & principles.

Minimum GPA of 2.75. The ideal candidate is interested in consulting engineering and the electric utility and energy industry. Coursework emphasis in structural preferred. Knowledge of structural analysis programs (RISA, STAAD, SAP2000, LPILE, MFAD) and Microsoft Office a plus but not required. Knowledge of software programs PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, LPILE, MFAD and Microsoft office a plus.
