This is a Dual-Unit position for NICU & 12-East Mott.

Home Unit- NICU:

Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the University of Michigan is a 46 bed Level IV neonatal center serving our region, state and beyond. We remain one of the state's leading referral centers for premature newborns and infants with complex medical problems, complex surgical problems or unusual anomalies, need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and whole body cooling for hypothermic neuroprotection.

About 80% of the Newborn ICU admissions are inborn and 20% are transported from our referral region and state. We offer 24/7 neonatal transport services with Newborn ICU RNs as members of the transport team.

Our specialized nursing team members provide quality nursing care to newborns from the acute phase of illness through recovery. A family-centered approach to care is practiced in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit.

We provide individualized support and education to families during hospitalization and in preparation for discharge. We empower families to participate in decision making for and in the care of their child.

12-East Mott:

12 East Mott is a 32 bed positive, energetic medical/surgical unit where our passion is to provide world-class family centered care.

Patients range in age from premature neonates to young adults.

Come work with a multidisciplinary team whose commitment to excellence is underscored only by our commitment to patients and their families.

You will work with general pediatric medicine and surgery patients as well as specialty services of GI, Pulmonary, ID, Liver Transplant, Genetics, Oto and Plastic Surgery.

Nursing Specific Info

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:

This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C (B INC).

Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level E.

Float pay will not apply when you work either NICU or 12-East Mott.

Your home unit will be NICU to preserve your seniority date as related to:

a. Holidays

b. PTO

c. Shift Selection

d. Assigned time off

e. Overtime

Each dual unit position will be posted with specific shift information that will apply to the dual unit position. Any changes to this shift will be determined through the contractual shift reassignment language.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period. Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort. Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.

  • Graduate Nurse applicants will be considered but must have Michigan RN license by date of hire

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, both verbal and written

Desired Qualifications*


Work experience in an acute care setting as a nurse tech, aide or nursing assistant.

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours dual unit

Shift: Night shift; 8-hour and 12 hour shifts

NICU primary unit – 3 weeks per ANSOS, 12E secondary unit – 1 week per ANSOS

Monday through Friday with rotating weekends
