This job posting is for an entry level research investigator. The Conrad Jobst Vascular Research Laboratory is seeking a researcher to work in collaboration with Dr. Jonathan L. Eliason. The primary area of research will be the study of the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular health hazards of electronic cigarette vapor (e-cig) and conventional tobacco smoke, using rodent models of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) as a disease model. Experience with environmental exposure chambers delivering cigarette smoke, as well as in vitro , ex vivo and in vivo analyses will be required. Proficiency in cytokine analysis, cell culture (including co-culture), assessment of cell signaling, biochemistry, enzymology including zymography, protein purification and characterization, gene therapy and viral transfection are all requisites for this position. Additional research experience with non-human primate animal models will also be necessary, as a secondary focus of this lab is hemorrhage control for trauma.
The hired research investigator will be expected to present their research at national and international meetings, mentor resident doctors, graduate and undergraduate students, and run the day-to-day functioning of lab and its personnel. Assistance with protocol generation, grant writing, and reporting of results will be expected.
Must be able to work without direct supervision.
Review, comprehend and comply with all standard University of Michigan operating procedures and quality assurance standards pertaining to a research investigator position, including benchmarks for promotion.
Be responsible for the day to day management of federal and or industry sponsored projects. Order and inventory supplies, work with administrative and university procurement personnel to secure equipment needed for research projects.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position during the entire shift?.
The employee ?routinely move equipments ?up to 25 pounds.
Ph.D or equivalent degree.
Ability to work independently as needed while still working courteously and effectively with others.
Basic computer skills (word-processing, spreadsheets, and Emails). Advanced computer skills (image analysis, photo-shop). Advanced microscopy skills for photo-documentation (immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, histology).
Should have strong communication skills.
Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with coworkers.
Hours/Week 40 Hours
Normal 40-hour weekday work schedule, potential for flexing this schedule to cover occasional weekends and holidays as needed based upon protocol demands.
