St. Elizabeth Hospital has a full-time Emergency Service Technician II opening in the Emergency Department. This position is scheduled to work 36 hrs/wk on a day shift basis.


The Emergency Services Technician II (EST II) will be a paramedic who functions as an emergency department team member under the direction of the RN and/or Physician. The EST IIs will be responsible for direct physical and technically skilled care and monitoring of assigned patients under the direction of the ED RN. Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary, self-managed work team using a holistic, caring approach to patient care. Perform delegated aspects of age-appropriate patient care and technical patient care skills including basic rehabilitation, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy and EKG under the RN direction. Reinforce patient/family teaching provided by the RN. In addition to these responsibilities, they may also start IVs and administer medications after successful completion of IV and medication skills lab. They may also perform skills as defined within their scope of practice and applicable under their paramedic licensure after competency in these areas has been assessed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Accepts and performs delegated aspects of care that he/she is competent to perform, under the direction of the RN. This includes advanced skills needed in the ER setting obtained through additional training and based on established policy and procedures.

Provides patient care using appropriate infection control and safety precautions.

Provides emotional support and considers patient’s condition and family needs in providing care.

Observes and reports promptly any changes in patient’s behavior and physical status to the RN. Notifies RN promptly of patient requests that require professional nursing intervention. Notifies RN when patient expresses concern related to issues of care or

Recognizes common barriers to communication including language, vision changes, hearing loss, speech problems, memory loss and disorientation.

Assists the RN and reinforces teaching of patients/families, staff and students.

Assists with unit operations and contributes to an efficient and smoothly running dept.

Will document all medications, procedures, and observations that they perform in the ED in the patients record.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Minimum Education Required :

Minimum Education required: Graduate of an accredited program in Paramedic Science is required. Credential/Licensure Required: Current Paramedic licensure required.

Minimum Related Years of Experience ( per minimum education ) Required:

Previous hospital-based EMT or paramedic experience preferred.

Computer literacy required.

Crisis Prevention Institute training required within one year of hire.
