Electronic Arts, Inc Studio Director of Operations in Austin, Texas

The role

EA Mobile is looking for a Studio Director of Operations for our Red Crow Mobile studio. The successful candidate will have a strong mix of Development and managerial experience within the games industry, with mobile experience being a strong preference. As the Studio Director of Operations, you will mentor and work closely with the Development Directors of the studio’s games to help overcome project issues, drive and support best practices, and to set clear guidelines and expectations for the studio’s games and services.

The successful candidate will represent and provide leadership for the Development discipline as a whole for the studio. As Studio Director of Operations, you will become the Operations point of contact for the studio – acting as the main interface between teams, both internal and external to EA. In particular, this will require identifying gaps in 1st and 3rd party integration points, driving responsible parties to close those gaps, and identifying and managing overall operational dependencies and risks for the studio.

In collaboration with other leaders in the organization, you will work to define a vision for the studio, and bring the experience and expertise required to drive the realization of that vision that allows us to create great games.

The Studio Director of Operations works closely with the VP/Group GM of Red Crow Studios and the management team to drive the planning, organization and control of key operational activities. He/she also works in close partnership with the management teams of each franchise as well as external partners to achieve success for the organization as a whole. They set and monitor operational targets for their studios and drive activities that achieve the studios A & O’s. As a core member of the Studio Leadership Team you will also play an integral role in building Red Crow’s culture and establishing studio operations.

What the Studio Director of Operations will do:


  • Implement the studios roadmaps and supporting execution plans.

  • Partner and review with VP/Group GM resource and execution plans that leverage a collaborative development model.

  • Partner with HR to develop and grow top talent and minimize attrition

  • Drive P&L planning

  • Partner with recruiting in building the candidate pipelines. Help teams with recruitment targets.

  • Lead change management strategies that address studio challenges whether through executive communication, town halls, reviews, workshops or other methods.

  • Develop, maintain, and publish Studio KPI’s that track project quality, delivery, and financial status and risks.

  • Validate and audit franchise operational plans.

  • Provide leadership within the studios to champion long-term initiatives that will have an impact on future projects and studio direction.

  • Actively drive external activities which promote positive partnerships with local community leaders


  • Drive process improvement forward through direct and dotted line reports. This would include transparent, predictable and value-added processes for quality product delivery and efficiencies as well as new ways of thinking about increasing company profitability.

  • Structure key roles and responsibilities, communication strategies, and standardized studio processes where necessary.

  • Participate in monthly Studio operational/business reviews by presenting key metrics and critical risks / mitigation for studios

  • Conduct operational reviews with each of the development teams.

  • Execute on annual and strategic studio business plans in support of the studios objectives.

  • Develop and provide oversight and execution around key game development processes, including the studio’s title planning and green light processes.

  • Provide studio wide leadership and strive to find innovative solutions to problems that arise

Project Management

  • Anticipate reasonable contingencies

  • Effectively manage priorities across multiple projects/programs

  • Measure progress and suggest top level actions to address progress shortfalls

  • Create project plans and tracks milestone dates.

  • Identify and mitigates risks

  • Present a strong knowledge of development methodologies and an understanding of when to use each one.

Financial / Infrastructure

  • Manage to the studio’s operating and capital budgets, resource budget, quality, and on-time predictability targets.

  • Provide complex project solutions across multiple disciplines that consider process and technology.

Who You Are:

  • 10+ years of operations and leadership experience

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to challenge and influence a variety of stakeholders.

  • Ability to prepare/present high impact business cases/analyses/recommendations to exec team

  • Excellent change management skills, i.e., comfortable with ambiguity and constant change, yet able to set priorities and execute on commitments.

  • Self-starter who is able to identify and solve problems.

  • Plan, organize, and control key operational activities of the studio teams and set clear targets to achieve studio objectives.

  • Support studios strategies and initiatives including: strategic vision, contribute to the creation and maintenance of the studios strategies and business plans.

  • Drive predictable delivery and risk management.

  • Where practical, drive the adoption of efficient product development practices and business process best practices that would benefit the studio.

  • Manage and coordinate resources between studios, ensuring efficient headcount utilization across the studio groups.

  • Work closely with the HR team in defining the future shape and changes for the organization including: outsourcing, insourcing, internal development resources, external development resources/external partners and contingency workforce management.

  • Develop and implement space and organization planning strategies to accommodate current and future organizational needs.

  • Reviews work of studios in context of other studios at EA

  • Collaborative communicator, customer focus, decision making and leading teams are key areas for this role

  • Coach, encourage and mentor the senior team to ensure improved performance

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience/training
