Job Summary

Perform moderately complex custodial team lead work to clean and care for state buildings and their premises. Work involves assisting in planning, assigning, coordinating, monitoring, and inspecting the work of custodians; conducting training; establishing and maintaining written records of special projects; coordinating or performing minor building maintenance and equipment repair and installation. Oversee the work of others. Work under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

General Duties:

Serve as the lead custodian for an assigned team of custodians.

Perform a wide variety of cleaning, minor maintenance, and detailed custodial work in offices, restrooms, and other building areas.

Clean office furniture, walls, and windows; empty trash; and clean offices in entirety.

Perform carpet maintenance and care.

Clean drapes, upholstery, and clean and repair venetian blinds and curtain rods, light fixtures, air conditioner (AC) ceiling grills, diffusers, vents, etc.

Assist in moving furniture due to cleaning, office rearrangements, or special events.

Use cleaning agents in a safe, cautious, efficient and effective manner for sanitization of restroom facilities, plumbing fixtures, floors, showers, etc.

Maintain inventory records of building property, custodial equipment, materials and supplies, and equipment.

Inventory janitorial closets to ensure timely replenishment of supplies.

Inspect buildings for cleanliness, completed work, and needed repairs.

Inspect waste containers on a random basis to ensure employee compliance with proper recycling procedures.

May be required to provide clean towels and linens for dormitory beds and gather soiled towels and linens for laundering by a service vendor.

May be required to clean and sanitize dormitory rooms; periodically air out mattresses; sanitize the gym area including disinfecting the exercise equipment, door handles, fans, etc., sweeping and wet mopping the rubber matting and other detail work instructed.

May use a variety of custodial equipment including, but not limited to: vacuum cleaners, floor maintenance machine, high speed buffers, carpet shampooers and extractors, automatic scrubbers, pressure washers, wet and dry pick ups, dry process carpet cleaners, and related equipment.

May perform minor equipment repair on custodial equipment.

May maintain and restock custodial supply closets.

May perform limited yard work including, but not limited to: trims shrubs in designated areas only, edging, pull weeds, sweeps sidewalks pick up trash on the ground, cleans courtyard areas, and empties trash cans/ash trays near proximity of the building.

May periodically be asked to work other than normal hours to accomplish special projects.

May drive vehicles and haul materials, supplies, dirt, and/or furniture.

May plan, assign, and/or oversee the work of others.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Education - Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent.

Experience - Two (2) or more years of work experience in industrial cleaning.

Custodial Knowledge - Cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work. Use modern electrical equipment such as floor maintenance machines, high speed buffers, carpet shampooers, extractors, automatic scrubbers, pressure washers, etc. Ability to read and understand warning labels on caustic cleaning chemicals. Recycling procedures and the ability to distinguish the difference between recyclable materials and non-recyclable materials.

Interpersonal Skills - Working knowledge of team lead/supervisory principles and operational practices. Position requires an ability to establish and maintain effective working/professional relationships with external and internal customers and coworkers. Ability to effectively lead others.

Communication Skills - Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Computer Skills- Basic proficiency with personal computers and modern business office practices.

Organizational Skills - Must be organized, flexible, and able to prioritize.

License and Certification - May be required to possess a valid driver license issued by the state of residence.

Confidentiality - Must be able to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.

Supplemental information:

**DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group and state title will be transferred with no salary change.

DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase up to 3.4%.

Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.**
