Naval Hospital Beaufort consists of the hospital and two Branch Health Clinics - one at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island and the other at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), Beaufort. Located within the grounds of the Naval Hospital Beaufort are privatized family housing single-story units, Bachelor Enlisted Quarters, a Navy Exchange Retail store, Gas Station/Mini Mart and Navy Federal Credit Union. Recreational facilities include a softball field, swimming pool, racquetball and basketball courts, outdoor fitness course, a gym, fishing pier, and a children's playground.

The Occupational Medicine Physician ensures the medial readiness and improved health status of the fighting forces and civil serice employees charged to sustain the fleet. The selectee applies professional medical knowledge to deal constructively with the health of employees in relations to their work (i.e., protecting employees against health hazards intheir work environment; ensuring the suitable placement of individuals according to their physical capacities, mental and emotional makeup; and assuring adequate medical care and rehabilitation of the occupationally ill and injured.)

In this position, you will perform meaningful professional work in the field of Occupational Medicine.

A typical day includes:

  • Responsible for accomplishment of a variety of physical examinations to assess the physical capabilities of a candidate in relation to job demands and/or discover physical infirmities present or incipient; examinations include: pre-employment physical exams, medical fitness for duty in current rate or proposed rate, medical surveillance and certification exams, disability retirement examinations.

  • Exercises clinical knowledge and skills to provide medical care to employees suffering from occupationally injury or disease as well as follow-up medical care and physical examinations.

  • Participates in the provision for limited medical services to employees for non-occupational conditions.

  • Performs a wide variety of medical treatment procedures (e.g. emergency treatment in cases of serious illness or injury, life-saving emergency procedures to stabilize a patient sufficiently to transport to a hospital facility, etc.).

  • Assesses and records health status of patients, interprets results of diagnostic studies, and instructs and counsels patients.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

  • MD or DO from an accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your degree from a foreign medical school? If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate. Please make sure your application includes your ECFMG or 5th Pathway Certificate number including date awarded.

  • 3 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in* Occupational Medicine(i.e., 3 yrs. Residency and/or fellowship and/or experience)? Your resume must reflect that you have a sufficient level of expertise in *Occupational Medicine to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP -13 Level.

  • Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

  • SatisfyBUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:

  • Completion of a residency program in the specialtyapproved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.

  • Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Occupational Medicine Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).

  • No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.

  • Board certification is desired but not required.
