CCAC Financial Accountant in Brampton, Ontario

The FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT will be responsible for the completion of the monthly income statement and balance sheet; the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts; the planning and co-ordination of the month end close; day-to-day over-view of the Accounts Payable function; backup for the payroll function; Quarterly and Annual MOHLTC filings and the participation in Internal Audits. Other responsibilities may include the following:

  • Daily collation of banking documents and account transfers in spreadsheet format – providing a daily cash balance and projected cash balance to the Manager of Finance and Business Analyst.

  • Daily input of cancelled cheques into Great Plains – to maintain current outstanding cheque status.

  • Prepare and enter monthly statistical and financial accruals.

  • Maintain the fixed asset sub ledger.

  • Prepare monthly departmental statements and monitor departmental spending against budget

  • On a monthly basis, bill, invoice and journalize recoveries, WSIB and others as appropriate.

  • On a monthly basis, reconcile and record approved funding to approved budget amounts

  • Code all corporate payables invoices – using the account lines established in the annual budget.

  • Review and check weekly payable batches.

  • Active backup to Payroll Administrator.

  • Actively participate in operational internal audits and external audits.

  • Assist in the development of the annual budget.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree and actively working towards or recently completed a Professional Designation in Accounting i.e. CPA or a Masters in Business Administration major in Accounting.

  • Minimum three to four years of relevant work experience.

  • Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

  • Strong Knowledge of Ministry of Health Information Standards in Canadian Health Organizations (MIS).

  • Experience in internal auditing and internal controls.

  • Excellent analytical skills and strong spreadsheet skills.

  • Knowledge of LHIN operations and home and community care services

  • Proficiency with Windows-based software (Excel, Word and Great Plains).

  • Exposure to accounting, data controls and working in a controlled environment would be considered assets.

  • Strong aptitude for detail work, accuracy and meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a team

  • Possess excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to operate effectively in a demanding deadline driven environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills, strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously and be exceptionally self-motivated and directed
