This position is located in the Nutrition Management Department of the Administration Directorate, Naval Hospital Bremerton.

THIS IS AN EXPEDITED HIRING AUTHORITY ANNOUNCEMENT. The Secretary of Defense Memorandum of 14 August 2012 designated healthcare professions as shortage and critical need positions and to appoint qualified healthcare professionals.   • Serve as a clinical dietitian in a community-based acute care and obstetrical hospital.

  • Develop, implement and monitor nutrition care plans for inpatients and outpatients in all life cycle phases.

  • Conduct patient, staff and community nutrition education programs for individuals and groups.

  • Collaborate with members of the health care team to provide medical nutrition therapy.

A. Degree: dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science.


B.* Registered Dietitian Nutritionist:* For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in effect at the time of graduation. Information on approved curricula may be obtained from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995. (Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is evidence of meeting this requirement.)

POSITIVE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: This position has a Positive Education Requirement. In order to verify that you meet the positive education qualifications for this position, you should submit a complete copy of the transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (Course title, semester/quarter hours and grade). SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor needed in order to qualify. The actual Selective Placement Factor is a Basic Life Support certification. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume OR submitting a copy of the certification with your application.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:

  • Assessing patient dietary habits and nutritional status.
  • Developing nutritional care plans and feeding regimens for patients, including complex patients such as surgical and critical care patients.

  • Interpreting and translating the physician's diet prescription into an individualized nutritional care plan acceptable to the patient.

  • Documenting nutrition assessment, intervention, education and follow-up plan in the inpatient and outpatient medical records.

QUALITY RANKING FACTOR: This position has a Quality Ranking Factor (QRF). This is a quality ranking factor that could be expected to enhance significantly the performance of the applicant in the position. The actual QRF is a certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator. You do not have to possess the factor in order to be rated eligible; however, applicants possessing the factor will receive additional points. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume OR submitting a copy of the certification with your application.
