This position serves as the Director for Provider Services/Research at the Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic (TBIC), Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, that provides regional hub for addressing the most complex diagnostic and treatment challenges for patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and complex Psychological and social challenges who have persistent impairment of function.

The selectee is responsible for program management, strategic planning, organizational execution and effectively coordinating the policies and activities related to the rehabilitation of patients at the TBIC.

  • Serve as advisor to the Deputy Director on all matters relating to pain management, cognitive rehabilitation, and overall functional improvement of patients receiving treatment with the TBI continuum.

  • Review and analyze rehabilitation work methods and operational procedures and recommend changes based in findings.

  • Assist in determining the need for improvements and new initiatives in clinical care and research.

  • Perform a wide range of medical duties covering rehabilitation medicine; examines and assess patients, develops and manages a comprehensive and long term rehabilitation program.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for consultation on medical management of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Psychological Health (PH) care.

  • Plan work, set priorities and prepare schedules for the completion of work by subordinates.

  • Evaluate performance; provide advice, counsel, or instruction to individual employees concerning work and administrative matters.

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

  • Degree: MD or DO from accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your medical degree from a foreign medical school? If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate. Please make sure your application includes a photocopy of your ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate and number including the date awarded.

  • Active, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

  • 5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (for example, 3 year PM&R; residency with an additional 2 year of experience and/or training). Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-15 Level. This includes, but is not limited to, performing a wide variety of medical duties covering rehabilitation medicine, eye/ear/speech rehabilitation, and chronic pain management in patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and complex psychological and social challenges. Acupuncture experience is highly desired.

Satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:

  • Completion of an Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

  • Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation within the past 2 years, actively practiced Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).

  • No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
