Strategic Investments Group Officer I, Originations - Manager

Role Summary & Purpose

  • The Strategic Program Originations Team oversees front-end deal prospecting, structuring, and execution for Capital One’s Corporate Bank Strategic Investments Group (“SIG”).

  • This individual will help maintain strong relationships with Capital One’s strategic investors partners and coordinate deal flow activities across the Corporate Bank – including the Private Equity Group (PEG), Mid-Corporate, Healthcare, TMT, FIG, Energy, and CRE platforms.

  • Partners include various formal and informal relationships amongst Capital One and third-party investors, lenders, and money managers. Strategic programs include Capital One’s unitranche, club, and side-car investment capabilities.

  • Along with members of the SIG Originations team, this individual will facilitate the Corporate Bank’s interactions with strategic investor partners and track deal flow – including deal screening, structuring, negotiating, and closing activities.

  • This individual will draw from prior experiences in relationship management and commercial banking and finance products.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee and monitor Capital One’s activities with strategic investor partners. Contribute to building partnerships centered on trust, collaboration, clear communication, and common vision.

  • Create, update, and manage deal pipelines with strategic investor partners. Serve as a point person for scheduled updates amongst internal stakeholders and investor partners.

  • Connect with associates across the Corporate Bank platforms and actively seek new deal opportunities. Become an active member in platform-level pipeline meetings and deal screenings.

  • Attend portfolio review sessions and analyze Corporate Bank portfolio reporting for opportunities to utilize strategic partners.

  • Run scenario analyses, coordinate returns models, and compare structures across multiple strategic partners.

  • Work with Capital One deal teams in prescreening new deal opportunities and preparing approval materials.

  • Coordinate deal closing activities amongst Capital One, strategic partners, and third-party administrators.

  • Prepare reporting and manage communications amongst various Capital One functional groups – including finance, legal, and audit teams.

  • Assist the SIG Development Team in rolling out new strategic investor programs across the Corporate Bank, including internal marketing and training efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years' experience in leveraged finance, capital markets, investment banking, or commercial banking

  • At least 2 years’ transaction-level experience across structured finance, including cash flow modeling and financial forecasting

  • Strong understanding of the commercial debt capital markets

  • Ability to navigate across a large organization and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong project management skills, collaborative work style, and an ability to work independently with minimal guidance
