Position Description

This position supports the engineering group by performing high level troubleshooting and ensuring proactive repair is completed for equipment within the facility. Additionally, this position will develop and execute process improvement projects and properly utilize tools such as root cause analysis to ensure efficient and high quality operations.

Main Areas of Responsibilities

  • High level troubleshooting and repair of equipment as required to support operations with little to no supervision.

  • Monitor process equipment performance / Develop line improvement ideas to increase line efficiencies and/or reduce labor.

  • Assists in the development and execution of process / equipment changes. Be familiar with change control procedures.

  • Lead, train, and mentor other mechanics.

  • Lead investigations and root cause sessions as assigned to reduce equipment related deviations.

  • Participate in new equipment design / specification with a maintenance focus.

  • Initiates work orders for repairs and/or adjustments to equipment.

  • Initiates purchase requisitions for materials needed for repair, PM or consumed during the performance of their duties.

  • Completes all required documentation needed to maintain the GMP requirements associated with work order completion and training records.

  • Reads and interprets machine drawings and electrical schematics as needed to troubleshoot, repair and maintain the packaging equipment and their supporting equipment.

  • Install/assist with installation and start-up new equipment brought into the facility.

  • Executes equipment qualification protocols.

  • Review equipment PM’s for effectiveness and modify as necessary.

  • Author equipment SOP’s.

  • Communicates effectively with employees, management, vendors and contractors.

  • Assists in the training of production staff to be proficient with the set-up and operation of processing/packaging equipment.


  • Qualified candidates should have 10+ years of direct experience troubleshooting and maintaining packaging equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prior lead mechanic or equivalent experience is preferred.

  • Employee will lift frequently unassisted up to 35 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs assisted.

Preferred Skills/Qualification

  • Demonstrated expertise with troubleshooting and repair of high speed packaging equipment.

  • Excellent analytical skills and working knowledge of electrical, computer, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

  • Must read and comprehend mechanical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.

  • Experience must include programmable logic controllers (PLC), hardwired relay logic systems.

  • Metal fabrication is preferred but not required.

  • Must be self-motivated, results oriented, dependable, organized, efficient, disciplined, and able to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Experience with systematic root cause analysis and troubleshooting.

  • Proven ability and experience with automated records systems / CMMS.

  • Demonstrated peer leadership experience.

  • Experience working in a GMP environment preferred.

  • Proficient mechanical skills using appropriate hand and power tools as well as experience using a wide variety of diagnostic tools used to test, troubleshoot and repair complex equipment.


  • High School diploma or equivalent. Associates of Engineering, technical school, or equivalent military experience is preferred.
