Overview: The Certified Coder Biller assumes responsibility for performing billing and collection functions for National Church Residences Medical Home. Responsibilities: Work through and process current claims, including Manager Holds and Holds in the EMREnter claims timely (within 1-2 business days of service), following up with Providers (physicians and nurse practitioners) as necessaryFix basic issues that place a claim on hold immediately (upon receipt and review of the claim)Understandrisk management implications of coding and billing, and highlight any risk issues on a regular basis to the Director, Medical HomeEducate staff on what various insurers require for prior-authorizations, and to ensure all prior-authorizations are received prior to service deliveryWork older claims that are at risk for Untimely filing; make weekly recommendations to Director, Medical Home, in consultation with A/R staff, for write-offsWork closely with A/R staff and Director, Medical Home to monitor billing issues and A/R AgingFunction as subject matter expert on both Athena and eClinicalWorks EMRs to coach, train and guide staff on technical (data input) issuesIdentify trends in Athena and eClinicalWorks claim errorsTrain staff on repeated errors (e.g. inaccurate subscriber IDs, incorrect insurance, DOA not entered, missing NDC numbers, missing tertiary insurance info, missing modifiers), as well as specific rules by payer, e.g. sequencing of diagnostic codesEstablish process for nursing homes and other sites with high % of incorrect (old/expired) insurance information to collect new/updated info on a regular basis and forward to Medical HomeConduct Quality and Assurance checks with consistent randomization process, at least monthly, providing report to Director, Medical HomeEnter claims for select providers (upon approval of Medical Director) to expedite billing. Qualifications: Licensure: MUST BE CERTIFIED: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC or comparable certification such as CHBME Experience: Knowledgeable and efficient with electronic medical records, and ability to quickly learn new systems. This include processing claims as well as creating and running meaningful reports. Experience with Athena and/or eClinicalWorks a plus Very familiar with ICD-9 billing codes, especially for primary care providers (experience with Podiatry a plus). Understands pending change to ICD-10 billing codes Extensive and current knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare (A, B and supplemental plans) and commercial insurance payers Understands health care environment, e.g. fee-for-service, managed care, and MyCare Ohio plans (Medicaid-Medicare for dual-eligible patients) Strong analytical skills and great attention to detail Strong communication (written, verbal) and interpersonal skills [to communicate clearly with payers, and to provide (re-)training for our physicians and nurse practitioners in EMR documentation and coding] Works quickly, efficiently and accurately Skilled in Microsoft Office/Excel
