The Mortgage Bank Originations Control Team is responsible for oversight and controls of operational risk for the businesses functions. The goal of the team is to consistently drive a strong control environment, identify potential risks and the controls to mitigate, and manage the operational risks. Validation of controls is performed by testing compliance to applicable corporate, state and regulatory guidelines as well as internal policies and procedures. Where controls are not adequate, this team escalates those concerns, and assists with driving improvements to the overall control environment, operational efficiency, and/or organizational alignment through the development, implementation, and validation of action plans. They support the internal and external audit and exam activities, monitor key change activities and projects, and provide feedback on control impacts of issues and new initiatives.
The Control Manager position will oversee all control activities across the Originations businesses and partner with other control functions including Audit, Risk, Legal, Compliance and Finance to build and maintain an effective control environment. To accomplish these objectives, the Control Manager may manage a team of senior control analysts, will work closely with the business units and external business partners located in multiple geographic regions, and will interact with various levels of management in regard to governance, process improvement and enterprise-wide risk communication, etc.
Act as a subject matter expert, determining line of business risk potential and working closely with Manager and LOB to recommend appropriate mitigating controls.
Serves as SME for analysts who have responsibility for FORCE, Change Control and Action Plan administration.
Ensure business processes are being tested to adhere toallcorporate, state and regulatory guidelines as well as applicable policies and procedures.
Build and maintain RCSA annual testing schedule and ensure completion within established timeline.
Prepare testing materials and reviews testing materials and results of Quality Analyst and Operational Control Analyst.
Ensure compliance with Chase, LOB, Department, investor, and regulatory rules and department service level agreements (SLAs) on a daily and monthly basis through account monitoring reports as well as escalations for the team.
Coach to ensure that production and quality standards are understood and achieved.
Gather, analyze and communicate change control information to senior management and other risk/control groups.
Gather and analyze data, reports and other documentation to determine inefficiencies, gaps in process/procedure, the integrity of data and/or training and appropriate separation of duties in each review, as applicable.
Responsible for planning and completion of projects with high Legal, Compliance or Audit risk.
Develop comprehensive review plans that encompass company policies, existing process/procedure and compliance with state, federal and investor guidelines.
Understands & complies with Operational Review methodology for thru-put and spot reviews.
Accountable for enterprise wide FORCE administration functions, ensuring information is consistent and structurally sufficient.
Seek, develop, and facilitate strong working relationships with business partners through ongoing coordination of operational matters and utilizing effective communication and, when warranted, conflict resolution skills.
Problem solve at a high level and exercise authority using prudent judgment to ensure that bank policy and profitability are not compromised.
A minimum of 6 years of audit, compliance or operational control experience strongly preferred.
A minimum of 6 years’ experience in Mortgage Operations or Risk/Control/Audit experience preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of staff management and development experience preferred.
Strong experience with identifying risk and developing mitigating controls.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to: 1) understand business functions quickly, 2) assess the risk, operational and financial impact of control issues and findings, and 3) communicate findings and develop recommendations for resolution
Strong relationship building skills with a demonstrated ability to influence outcomes.
Ability to interface with internal clients and translate technical data and information into user reports and presentations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of state, federal, and regulatory guidelines strongly preferred.
Excellent MS Office Suite skills (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Access)
