Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division – Cootehill
Abbott Nutrition in Cootehill manufactures infant nutritional products for the export markets. The facility is dedicated to providing products of the highest quality standard to its customers.
Abbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name “Similac”. To complement the range of “Similac” infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow on formulae under the brand name of “Gain”. The essential ingredient is liquid skim milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurised, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada.
Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide.
Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 litres per day. This secure supply together with Ireland’s reputation as a green, clean environment is of significant strategic importance to Abbott Nutrition.
We currently have a vacancy for a CAPA & Validation Manager and this position will include the following:
This position requires at least 5 years Quality Management experience at a senior level within a fast paced food manufacturing environment. This is a dynamic, challenging position managing a variety of functions including Validation, CAPA, Management Review, Metrics and QualEx projects.
The position requires a high calibre professional with a proven track record in people management and experience in a high volume, high value environment. Shall have ability to set vision for Quality Excellence.
Must be innovative with ability to overcome challenges and barriers introduce change into a fast paced manufacturing environment.
Must be able to discern potential food safety issues and proactively implement preventive controls where required.
Ability to effectively interface with Division QA, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Medical and technical organisations in complex Quality and Product Safety issues and product related queries and product launches
Requires extensive background in CAPA and Validation within a high speed and high volume FMCG environment?
Previous experience in validation, CAPA, engineering, chemistry, bio-chemistry and chemical composition alongside an understanding of new and emerging technologies to support this fast paced environment will deliver success within this role.
Responsibility for the overall CAPA management system for the Cootehill facility.
Responsibility for the overall Validation management system for the Cootehill facility.
Coordinate Quality related programs such as QualEX and PoP
This function plays a key role in investigation of high impact ER’s to ensure thorough investigation and root cause is identified.
Manage and oversee the plant validation process and ensure all validations are completed in a timely fashion
This function will have responsibility to ensure the CAPA system is managed effectively and all plant investigations are carried out fully and appropriately. The impact of ineffective reporting may have implications on plant operations and quality of Abbott product
The role will support and lead investigations involving High Impact ER’s and work closely with plant SME’s to ensure a thorough investigation is carried out identifying root cause.
This function must ensure preventative actions put in place are effective and effectivity reports reviewed and tracked accordingly.
The role must maintain and report quality metrics on a weekly and monthly basis as required
- A Bachelor of Food Science/Chemistry/Quality/Engineering or a Third level qualification in a related discipline.
Very good understanding of the manufacturing process.
Strong knowledge and experience in analytical techniques and methods used.
Excellent interpersonal skills and management skills.
Communicate with all levels of the organization.
Communicate effectively with cross-functional team.
