JOB REQUIREMENTS: Responsibilities Personnel: Work with other members of the product development team to translate customer requirements into engineering product specifications and set development plan Acts as Project Manager and coordinates among a project team (including members of industrial design, factory, and engineering, CAD design, electrical and software engineering, quality, product management, factory sales, etc.) to ensure schedule is met and New Product Development tasks are completed Communciates daily between factory and North America on all technical isues and customer requirements Can work with a diverse group of people Capability to exert influence without alienating others Lead multiple projects through the Key Technology/Key Component (KT/KC) and NPD process Assist Product Management in the development of PPS (Product Project Specifications), then ensures project adheres to PPS Without assistance, act as the technical leader regarding design and market requirements and transfer these ideas to the team Thorough review of costs, design risks, Industrial Design outlook, and manufacturing capability A mindset of continuous product improvement, value engineering, and design for manufacturability Follow all phasegate deliverables and ensure completion to company standards and schedules Leads overall engineering design while assisting factory engineers to do detailed CAD design and drawings Responsible for identifying, managing, and ensuring product meets all compliance requirments Without assistance, complete DFMEA, strength and fatigue analysis of all design proposals to ensure the product meets the design requirements Monitor the costed BOM (Bill of Materials) to ensure the project adheres to cost targets Daily interactionwith global Product Marketing and Asia-based factory engineering, manufacturing, and quality Coordinate with Manufactuing and Purchasing to ensure the product is producible and meets the tooling costing requirements defined in the product specification Support and troble shoot the introduction of new products into manufacturing Determine and maximize container utilization and package size Ensure NPD process is followed, NPD checklist and documenation is maintained, and project milestones and deadlines are met Production Transition Support: Review quality and inspection data, perform prodct sample reviews and make design decisions, support value-add/value -engineer opportunities for cost and manufacturing efficiency Develop functional requirements and testplans for transition of product into mass production Train Asia-based engineering and factory manufacturing team on design requirements Skills Interpersonal and Communication: Can work with a diverse group of people, superior performing team Always ready to get his/her hands dirty Process Knowledge: Familiarity with numerous manufacturing processes: Welding, forming, casting, punching, grinding, turning, lasers, drilling, etc. Familiarity with numerous plastic modling processes including: injection, vacuum forming, blow, gas assist and rotational & their tooling Familiarity with numersous secondary operations: heat treating, plating, painting, etc. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field required Experience: At least 3-5 years of design experience, consumer products experience preferred Addtional Project Engineering or Project Management experience is a significant plus Demonstrable experience designing components for various manufacturing processes including plastics, sheet metal, tube forming, casting, machining, welding & joining, etc. Other Requirements: Strong knowledge of 3D CAD and related design analysis tools (Soli Works preferred) Ability and willingness to travel internationally, approximately 4 international trips per year of 8-14 days each Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability
