Tesoro Project Manager, Retail Maintenance in Covina, California

Provides oversight on the health of the maintenance portfolio which include development and tracking of KPI’s that will be utilized to manage costs, reliability, work quality and EH&S performance. Maintenance requests that warrant dedicated attention will be assigned to the Project Manager for execution. Responsibility include all aspects of scope, estimate, schedule, engineering design, equipment and material selection, project bidding, contractor selection, construction oversight, management of change, safety and environmental oversight and all other project tasks to successfully accomplish project goals in a safe, profitable, timely and efficient manner. The position will supports multiple capital and expense projects simultaneously within a managed budget and execution schedule.


    • Staff Management*
  • Function as subject matter expert (SME) for fuel and convenience store infrastructure maintenance as support function to subordinates.

  • Supports health of maintenance portfolio through staff management, drives accountability and performance through regular engagement in regional portfolio performance review, coaching and best practice.

  • Develops staff to maximize performance and enhance career opportunities.

    • Project & Vendor Management*
  • Oversees retail construction and engineering projects of higher complexity as well as manage assigned site portfolio on on-call basis as required.

  • Full responsibility for project lifecycle management for assigned maintenance projects.

  • Represents Retail Maintenance in collaboration with Retail internal customers and stakeholders, including Retail Technology, Retail Operations, Merchandising, Procurement and EH&S.

  • Schedules construction and engineering projects and communicates status and timing of projects to appropriate management.

  • Participate in vendor performance review and engagement to foster best in class service provider network.

  • Participate in contract sourcing events. Involvement may include development of scope of work, data analysis and collaboration with Supply Chain

  • Ensures compliance with local/city/state/federal governments, building codes, and permits. Ensures proper environmental requirements are covered in associated contracts to ensure compliance.

    • Budgeting and Forecasting*
  • Collaborates with Construction Managers on areas of shared responsibility to ensure most effective use of available resources

  • Prepares budgets for areas of responsibility and participates in budgeting process, including coordination with Retail Operations in support of larger capital projects.

  • Participates in regular team project status meetings regarding construction, engineering and maintenance activities.

  • Utilizing maintenance history, aids in establishing yearly and long term (5 year) capital maintenance spending requirements based on network needs.


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience is required.

  • At least 6 years of construction and engineering or related experience is required.
