The American Heart Association (AHA) has a great opportunity for a Multicultural Markets Intern in our National Center office in Dallas, TX.

Multicultural Markets (MCM) empowers multicultural communities to improve health by removing barriers and providing the tools and resources needed to create a sustainable culture of health. Multicultural Markets is dedicated to improving the lives of diverse Americans by preventing heart disease and stroke in under-served markets. As the MCM Intern you would provide operational support to the Multicultural Markets team with opportunities for project lead responsibility. Utilizing your skills and qualifications, you would serve as the contact and support person for Faith & Collegiate team; including content creation and social media postings. You must be a driven individual by being proactive, providing balances analysis, and committed to organizational goals.

The duration of this role is 8 months, and working 25 hours per week, with ability to travel multiple overnight trips at least 5% of the time.

Here are some of the essential job duties:

  • Keep up-to-date with trending topics and innovations in social, digital and multicultural markets

  • Serve as support in content creation and posting for social media

  • Support Multicultural Markets digital initiatives

  • Manage social media and web reporting/analytics

  • Blogging and content scheduling

  • Schedule and manage logistics for meetings and teleconferences

  • Plan and execute projects assigned to ensure timely completion

  • Assists in the regular maintenance of both the email distribution lists and the Empowered To Serve inbox.

  • Coordinate bulk mailings for program/initiatives along with electronic and paper file management

Required Experience

  • College student or recent college graduate with emphasis in Marketing, Communications, Public Health, Business or equivalent

  • Experience working with social media and Web technologies, including an understating of multicultural audiences

  • Advanced computer literacy skill-set with MS Office programs

  • Strong project management and/or organizational skills, with professional business presentation skills. Demonstrated competence and success in prior assignments, proven project management and personal integrity are required

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with problem solving techniques

  • Ability to meet and interact with the all levels of AHA staff, public, national volunteers and external vendors

  • Must be flexible with the ability to handle multiple projects including unexpected projects and urgent deadlines

  • Established ability to collaborate with others, acknowledges others’ contributions, gains support and commitment from external parties, promotes collaboration and facilitates teamwork

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Spanish bi-lingual preferred

  • MS SharePoint and Google Analytics are helpful
