OSP/Fiber Design Engineering Specialist 4
The Telecommunications Division delivers telecommunication infrastructure solutions to utilities, local and state government agencies and the commercial wireless industry. Through a unique combination of experience, expert resources and innovative solutions, Black & Veatch supports the entire range of both legacy and emerging technologies used in today’s wireless and wireline networks, voice, video, Internet and data systems and utility automation.
Contract-to-Hire, potential to convert to a permanent B&V professional. Functions as an OSP technical specialist and in a lead role. With minimal supervision, applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods. Expands knowledge and skill set in area of discipline. May start to expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
This individual is a Telecommunications Professional and must be capable of engineering routine and specific outside plant work orders, both distribution and feeder.
Ideal candidates will be experienced in OSP design of copper and fiber optic facilities, in aerial, underground and buried applications.
Technical knowledge and understanding of right of way and easements is required.
General understanding of aerial construction, including span lengths, pole loading, anchoring, guying, and attachment heights, as well as familiarity with joint use regulations are all a plus.
Position requires the capability to train, manage and develop subordinate project personnel.
Candidate should have experience with initial design and constructability review in accordance with project specifications.
Experience developing Construction Bid Packages and competitively bid project to sub-contractors.
Manage development of permit and construction plans.
Order and track delivery of 3rd party material.
Coordinate all construction activities with local and state agencies with regards to permitting and licensing.
Attend company and client status meetings.
Minimum of 5 years related work experience in Fiber/OSP Design
Excellent communications skills, strong organizational skills, a high level of integrity, a strong team player, and attention to details are all critical traits of successful B&V Engineers.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or sciences preferred or any other degree, specialized training, or experience, that makes the individual uniquely qualified to perform the job responsibilities. Industry recognized credentials preferred as needed.
Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years construction management experience and 2-3 years direct telecommunications experience.
