About Our Job

The Right of Way Services (ROWS) section of the Public Works Department is seeking a qualified individual to serve in the role of the Surveying Technician. This is a great opportunity for growth into a professional career in Land Surveying!

The Survey Section of the Right of Way Services division provides land survey expertise to the Department of Public Works and other city agencies and proactively reviews both private and city development projections.

The Surveying Technician:

  • Performs entry level survey technician work assisting with office and field surveys.

  • Will assist with or run equipment including levels, total stations, data collectors, and GPS equipment.

  • Has the ability to assist with or run basic calculations, field notes, and data entry both in the field and in the office.

  • Has the potential to process data, perform survey research, and work with plans and maps.

  • Assists with GIS data maintenance.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Prior experience in Land Surveying

Education Requirement:

Graduation from high school or GED Certificate including completion of course work in algebra, trigonometry and geometry.

Experience Requirement:

One year of experience working with policies, procedures, statutes, rules or regulations pertaining to land use, which must have included experience interpreting drawings, maps, legal descriptions, construction methods, and/or mapping systems.

Education/Experience Equivalency:

One year of college in surveying, engineering, science, or a related field may substitute for one year of the experience requirement.

Licensure and/or Certification:

Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of application.

Classification Title: The working title and job classification title for this position is Staff Land Surveyor

Hiring Range: $44,387.00-$49,504.00 annually

Assessments/Testing: This position does not require testing.
