Midwestern University Assistant Professor in Downers Grove, Illinois
The Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching, course and/or module coordination, overall curriculum development and integration in her/his discipline or area of expertise as assigned. The Assistant Professor is responsible for instruction in the simulation clinic, patient care clinic, plenary and small group sessions.
The Assistant Professor reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education. With regards to didactic teaching, the Assistant Professor interacts and reports to the related Course Coordinator(s).
The Assistant Professor interacts significantly with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education, the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education, Preclinical and Clinical Program Directors, Group Practice Coordinators and Course Coordinators. There is an imperative to interact effectively with faculty in related disciplines of the Oral Health Sciences, and Basic Sciences when indicated. Additionally, the Assistant Professor must communicate effectively with the faculty, staff and students.

The Assistant Professor performs some or all of the following functions, which will be prioritized and will continue to evolve depending on the career direction of the Assistant Professor and the mutual goals of that individual, CDMI and the University.
The Assistant Professor performs the following functions:
Models and ensure professional behavior
Development of an Oral Pathology biopsy service to support Midwestern University’s Dental Institute and private practitioners in the Chicagoland area
Instruction of Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine to CDMI students
Participates in the DMD curriculum in the areas of case development, facilitation of small groups, faculty calibration, etc.
Development a personal research plan.
Recruitment, training and calibration of faculty
Serves as Course Coordinator for courses and/or modules in the Oral Health Sciences (OHS) curriculum of the DMD program.
Development of instructional design and assessment formats for the OHS curriculum in cooperation with the Assistant/Associate Deans for Academic Affairs, Preclinical Education, and Clinical Education
Development and organization of didactic and simulation clinic coursework and exercises.
Development of electronic cases and related training manuals for OHS courses in coordination with the other courses
Engages in the delivery of OHS courses and modules
Manages clinical situations based on the best practices model of their discipline or area of expertise, as performed in evidence-based clinical care.
Assures evidence-based clinical care.
Assures timely, sequenced, clinically acceptable, safe simulation and patient care.
Renders direct care in clinics as required by degree of difficulty or demonstration needs.
Ensures the appropriate maintenance of the patient record.
Ensures that OSHA and HIPAA policies and procedures are followed in the patient care clinic, especially in relation to the practice of their discipline or area of expertise.
Assists where needed in the Continuous Quality Improvement program and other programs directed at improving the quality of care, student learning, patient satisfaction and clinical operations.
Maintains a positive image as a representative of Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Illinois.
Development and implementation of student assessment protocols
Collects student assessment data, both electronic and hardcopy
Interacts with students and faculty in relation to the OHS curriculum
Development and implementation of calibration and standardization of instructional and assessment methodologies
Participates in regular faculty performance appraisals of part-time faculty
Participates in the management of faculty schedules
Provides and manages discipline related coursework in the classroom, laboratory, simulation clinic, patient care clinic.
Contributes to the day-to-day operation and functionality of the simulation clinic, patient care clinic, dispensary and related laboratory areas

The Assistant Professor will participate in University and College committees as determined appropriate by the Dean.
Qualifications & Skills Required
DDS/DMD or equivalent and specialty or other post-graduate training – with preference given to those with 3-5years experience in dental education that includes course development, particularly in the realm of their specialty. Previous experience utilizing educational and simulation technology is desired.
