The Chief of Medicine must be board certified Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine physician.
The position will provide leadership and direction for the Medical Service staff and its programs, to include, acute inpatient care, Specialty Clinics, and Emergency Department/Urgent Care Clinic. The incumbent must possess clinical knowledge that provides the ability to manage these programs and provide direct supervision to Clinical Providers, including Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, specifically with regard to customer satisfaction, quality of services provided, and efficiency of service delivery. The candidate will be responsible for the oversight of various specialty care clinics to include, but not limited to: Cardiology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, and Neurology.
The Chief, Medical Service, is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, implementing, controlling, and refining a comprehensive patient management/clinical support/administrative program which provides services and technical counsel necessary to meet clinical, procedural, legal and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of patients to achieve maximum utilization of patient care resources in a cost-effective, efficient, and timely manner. Broad clinical and administrative expertise is required in order to coordinate Veteran care in collaboration with the Medical Center Clinical Service Chiefs, Quality Management, Nursing Administration and with other VA and non-VA entities within and outside the VISN.
Incumbent is responsible for implementing VHA Handbooks, rules, directives, policies and regulations governing a broad range of administrative aspects of the medical center. In order to affect the policies, incumbent must have skills in management theory, cost-benefit analysis, and statistical analysis. The incumbent will be committed to supporting Patient Centered Care, to include the Patient Aligned Care Team model. Integral to this role is the active engagement in quality improvement initiatives and the development of action plans that lead to process improvement and various systems redesign.
The Chief, Medical Service is responsible for staffing of all pertinent clinical areas during non-administrative hours with a Hospitalist staffing model in order to ensure 24/7 physician coverage of the facility, including emergency coverage.
Tour of Duty: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm This position may require the individual to work off hour shifts, weekends and holidays as priorities demonstrate a need*.*

(1)Citizen of the United States.
(2) Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the the degree was granted. (schools including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full unrestricted licensure. (schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association.)
(3)Completed residency, or its equivalent approved by the Secretary of VA for the year in which it was completed.
(4) Licensure and Registration, Current, full and unrestricted licensure to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must and maintain current registration.
(5) Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
(6) Board certification by the appropriate American Board is preferred.
After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
