Cook- Casual/as needed Howard Young Medical Center and Eagle River Memorial Hospital Howard Young and Eagle River Hosptials are looking for a Cook to work on casual/as needed status up to 20 hours or more per week Hours: 6:30am-5:30pm Monday-Friday Every other weekend and rotating holidays The Cook performs a wide variety of tasks to prepare hot food menu items, both regular and modified, for various menus including patients, Meals on wheels (Saint Mary’s), Cafeteria, and any special events and meetings. Plans food prep schedule to have foods ready at designated times. Duties: 1. Prepares entrees and vegetables for patient’s menu following standardized recipes and production sheets. Prepares hot menu items according to standardized recipes making substitutions as necessary. Serves and does cash register at Breakfast. At Lunch, does short order cooking and replenishing of hot food items. Plans cooking schedule to have foods ready at designated times to preserve nutritional quality, flavor, and appearance. Maintains portion control with minimal overages and shortages. Ensures that leftovers are refrigerated appropriately and promptly and are used in a timely manner. 2. Understands therapeutic diets. Serves Trayline according to patient diet orders. 3. Maintains proper rotation of left-over food items in walk-in cooler and freezer. Replenishes food and paper items appropriately and promptly. Stocks shelves and rotates food and supplies neatly and appropriately. Informs supervisor of poor quality, incorrect or excessive supplies. 4. Follows infection control and department procedures and policies. Maintains sanitary condition of kitchen area by cleaning work areas and equipment as assigned. Follows Sanitation Codes i.e., Handwashing and glove wearing according to Infection Control / Employee Health guidelines. Labels and dates all food per posted guidelines. Thaws food according to posted guidelines. Maintains work areas in a clean and organized fashion. Consistently follows department sanitation procedures. 5. Operates foodservice equipment. Consistently utilizes equipment safely and follows department safety standards. No equipment damage, minimal dish breakage is observed. Cleans and maintains all cooking and slicing equipment. Promptly informs supervisor of malfunctions. 6. Records all food and equipment temperatures according to procedures. Initial and Holding Temperatures are correctly taken and recorded for food items. Inappropriate temperatures are corrected and reported immediately to supervisor. 7. Demonstrates a helpful and courteous manner in dealing with employees and the public. Willingly assists employees, if necessary, and responds to questions and/or concerns. 8. Completes responsibilities as assigned in a timely and efficient manner, performs extra cleaning or assists others when time permits. Works with Food Service Supervisor on menus and lets Food Service Supervisor know when food items are low. Helps put Sysco order away. Breaks down boxes and recycles cans and plastics. Qualifications: Minimum Education Required : Completion of high school or equivalent.
