business unit, provides cloud-based productivity tools and collaboration

features to researchers. Recognised for

its Reference Management applications, Mendeley is rolling out a range of services

to the researcher community, aimed at delivering value across the researcher

lifecycle and deepening user engagement.

The Senior Product Manager: Acquisition

& Onboarding will collaborate closely with marketing on developing the

acquisition funnel and take a product lead role on optimizing traffic

conversion to registrations and on-boarding users to relevant, high value


The role has a number of goals, many of

which will require collaboration across product, marketing an analytics disciplines:

  • Own the information architecture for thesigned-out websites (including use of URLs, redirects, page structure and othertagging)

  • Identify personas in the funnel and provideoptimize landing page experiences & registration flows that serve theirneeds meaningfully and efficiently

  • Increase aggregate conversions andregistrations as well as in key target segments

  • Take ownership of the roadmaps and strategyfor all signed out websites including, our support & feedbacksites, the blog and community pages

  • In collaboration with marketing (the CMSusers and content managers), provide leadership and direction for the CMS andplatform strategy powering our signed-out websites

  • Work with the product manager for Access todevelop and rollout a onboarding framework for our applications and services thatenriches the user experience and delivers user revisit and retention businessbenefits

  • Work closely with the Access productmanager to ensure our authentication brokers support seamless interaction with Elsevier’scentralized identity management services

  • Collaborate with marketing on positioningthe value proposition effectively to the market

  • Support and collaborate with marketing asrequired on their content & SEO keyword strategy including anyspecification and implementation of changes to support growth and engagement

  • Support Marketing in any productspecification work required to support PPC or affiliate marketing initiatives

This role has an extensive remit requiring

the post-holder to bring relevant, hands on Senior Product Management experience

of working with stakeholders, agile cross discipline teams, CMS and web

technologies, tactical and strategic work and user insights data in all the

above areas.

The Senior Product Manager will be

proficient at framing and prioritizing the problems to be solved. They will consult extensively cross

discipline in order to identify the right solutions that represent the best

cost/benefit to the business. They will

always consider the trade-offs associated with short-term tactical work versus

strategic, scalable implementations. In

considering product and features, they will factor in other relevant factors

including transferable architecture, performance and availability, design

coherence and consistency, visual fidelity and quality of user experience.

The successful candidate will ultimately

blend a strategic, long-range outlook with tactical pragmatism. They will be engaged with the detail of user

experience, insights and analytics and the decisions and opportunities these

uncover. They will be results focused,

using the build, measure, learn methodology to release value quickly and

iteratively or fail fast.

They will be equally effective working in

cross-discipline agile teams as well as within the product, design and

stakeholder communities in order to identify opportunities to drive business

benefits and bring colleagues (and users) on that journey.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with senior stakeholders across thebusiness to agree strategic goals and objectives, measurable targets andtactical roadmaps that represent the first milestones on this journey

  • Collaborate with marketing to define ago-to-market strategy including segments, territories, value proposition andmarketing communications & engagement

  • Take a user and data centric approach toproduct prioritisation and planning, presenting priorities and direction in awell argued, evidenced and compelling way

  • Communicate product progress and directionacross the business via working/steering groups, wiki & email updates,corridor conversations, presentations, learning lunches and more

  • Break down the product roadmap &strategy into prioritised, development-ready, testable user story backlogssupported by tech arch/designs

  • Using agile methodologies, work acrossdisciplines to deliver a pipeline of priority user features that releaseiterative value to the end user

  • Use 'build, measure, learn' or similarmethodology to develop, test and iterate product hypotheses for the communityand collaboration tools, within a wider waterfall wrapper

  • Build connections across the ResearchApplication Platform (RAP) and Publishing businesses - including the Directorof ROS Integration - to envision and execute on how we syndicatecommunity/collaboration tools across our platforms

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Honors degree, MSc or PhD in business,technology or scientific discipline

  • Experience of defining, designing andideally launching an online community around serious subject matter with anunderstanding of how to lay down the foundations and build a roadmap offeatures over time that maintains and increases adoption and engagement

  • Familiar with identifying, engaging andnurturing communities in order to deepen the relationships and sustain growthmeasure using a basket of meaningful KPIs

  • A seasoned Senior Product Manager with anaffinity for publishing and research; understands the different researcherneeds and how they translate to a community platform

  • Able to synthesize vision & strategy,tactical roadmaps and sprint goals; analytical and able to break down bigfeatures into incremental deliverables, adept at working with agile teams usinga range of tools and techniques

  • Data driven, pro-active communicator,driven and purposeful while maintaining a collaborative and inclusiveapproach

  • Demonstrable experience within product orsenior product management

  • Evidence of providing product leadershipand direction to one or more agile delivery teams

  • Experience interacting with seniorexecutives, explaining to them business & technical choice points andfacilitating decisions

  • Strong analytical skills and ability forconceptual & strategic thinking

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbaland written, and the presence to interact with and present to senior executives

  • Extensive experience with and knowledge ofscientific publishing, infrastructure development and complex databases systems

  • Self-motivated and able to workunsupervised, accepting responsibility for own actions

  • Eager to learn quickly from experience andothers

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with anability to build effective working relationships

  • Ability to anticipate and manage potentialpoints of conflict, balancing the interests of different groups againststrategic objectives

  • Broad overall end-to-end operationsknowledge: processes, tools, suppliers and systems

  • Good understanding of overall businessdrivers and product development drivers

  • Good understanding and experience of the fullproject life-cycle, management and structured development processes

  • Knows what it takes to drive early adoptionof products and services, build a community of influencers that can go on todrive mass adoption

  • Deep, practitioner level knowledge of SEO,SEM, link-building, acquisition and growth channels

  • Hands on experience of product managing amainstream web content management system e.g. Drupal, Joomla, WordPress,Concrete5, EPIServer, Squiz Matrix
