The Application Engineer sees it all—design, manufacture, installation and operation of our pumps and seals at our customers’ sites in the oil and chemical industries. In this challenging position the Application Engineer (AE) provides real-time technical support to our customers, and provides recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and replacement equipment. The AE is actively engaged in troubleshooting problems and implementing solutions on-site at the customer facility and at our repair center in Fort McMurray.
Degree in Engineering or Advanced Diploma
0-3 years of work experience mechanical seals or the oil and gas industry
Knowledge of the design, materials, and operational requirements of mechanical seals and rotating equipment, especially centrifugal and liquid ring vacuum pumps, a positive.
Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor experience Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
CAD literate, and able to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be a well-organized self-starter who can accomplish goals and objectives in a timely manner and without close supervision.
Must have a strong customer focus and project a positive corporate image.
Must be a team player, able to problem-solve and work constructively with customers and co-workers. Ability to work well in a team–oriented environment. Demonstrates behavior that contributes to a team environment, decision making, problem solving, and continuous improvement Strong mechanical aptitude and technical writing skills.
Monitor and evaluate the status of the customer's rotating equipment
Travel is typically less than 5%
Bachelors of Science preferably in Mechanical Engineering
Provide technical support and recommendations for the selection, sizing, and application of Flowserve Seals.
Support operations, quality, and other customers as necessary to meet their objectives and to achieve on time delivery goals.
Complete projects requiring both hands-on and mathematical analyses resulting in independent evaluation, such as detailed failure analysis reports, product performance reports, recommendations for upgrades, repair/buy decisions, etc.
Participate in interdepartmental activities to ensure that concurrent engineering techniques and best practice processes are effectively implemented throughout the engineering group.
Review of design for manufacturability and design cost issues Leverage and coordinate the timely insertion of Company resources for more complex solutions
Present clear verbal and written technical explanations to customers, tailoring the content and style to the audience.
Help organize “Bad Actor” meetings to maintain visibility on equipment performance. Support standardization and continuous improvement of product and process
Provide technical guidance and support to other members of the technical staff and field personnel as required.
Give direction and support to designers and technicians who are assigned to support technology and product development efforts.
Maintain data regarding customer equipment and parts inventories, responding with appropriate actions regarding inventory reduction and consolidation.
Maintain data in engineering systems; process engineering change notices; submit corrective action reports; and maintain current, accurate, organized files.
Help conduct technical training as needed for our customers.
