This position is for an Exploration Geoscientist in Hess's Exploration Canada Offshore Team. Hess has two large acreage positions in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland respectively with 2D and large 3D seismic coverage in both regions. The focus area for Canada spans both sides of the Atlantic Margin from Northern Europe and NW Africa to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Competence with both geophysical and geological interpretation-evaluation is essential. The ideal candidate will have regional-play-prospect evaluation experience in multiple basins, with international-domestic, onshore/offshore exposure as well as Gulf of Mexico subsalt experience. The position will utilize a mix of skills integrating geology with potential fields and seismic to better define both stratigraphic and structural prospects. This incudes refining our regional structural and tectonostratigraphic underpinning for multiple basins in Offshore Eastern Canada. A background and experience in structural geology is a plus in order to fill a critical skill set in the team. The Canada team will drill at least two wells in the next two years and support for operations may be needed. Evaluations of data rooms and bid rounds consistent with the access strategy will include short deadlines and sporadic international travel as needed. This position will have high profile in the company and be under tight deadlines and is ideal for a dynamic high-energy individual seeking a significant opportunity for impacting the company’s future. The position reports directly to the Exploration Manager, Canada Offshore.
*ROLE / RESPONSIBILITIES*
Regional 2D and 3D seismic interpretation of entire basin areas and integration of well logs and seismic stratigraphy
Regional to prospect scale structural interpretation including tectonics, basement/crustal mapping, fault network mapping, fault seal analysis and various quantitative structural analyses
Play-prospect evaluation of opportunities including sweetspot identification, prospect ranking and play refinement incorporating current well results.
Opportunity identification, evaluation, and prospect maturation through economic valuation
Probabilistic assessment of petroleum volumes, risk, and working with PreDevelopment to determine economic value and risk of multiple prospects
Strong individual contributor and team player
Effective project management, ability to multi-task
Mentoring of colleagues and junior staff
Active participant in partner TCMs with ability to influence operator with technical work and sound reasoning
*SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:*
Minimum of 10-years experience, Exploration specific experience strongly preferred
Experience and expertise to include: subsurface mapping, well-seismic integration, cross sections, fluid systems, probabilistic volumetrics, and risking.
Strong analytical and synthesis skills and commitment to continued learning and improvement.
Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
Well developed sharing, listening, and collaboration skills are highly valued
Comfortable with aggressive timelines
Ability to manage projects with strong focus on delivery and results
Paradigm preferred (other interpretation application experience is valued)
Masters of Science, Geoscience required, with a PhD being a plus
