Creates Allergan product packaging component artwork that adheres to Allergan Standards and the procedures established in the area for process controls. Supports the development, implementation, configuration management, and supply of in-house electronic artwork for U.S./Canada Allergan products, third party products and U.S./international breast/health products.
Accountable for keeping on task for multiple projects simultaneously. Manage project workflow by evaluating project status and collaborating with team members to meet project deadlines. Work closely with project team members and manufacturing sites to ensure there is sufficient time along with accurate information to complete the project by the expected due date. Ensures the project is met with high quality standards and within Allergan specified compliant processes.
Support efficient artwork approval and transfer procedures between internal customers and external resources. Support the development of global systems and procedures for the integration of the packaging structural design with the artwork development. Successfully resolves routine technical challenges with printers and/or converters. Responsible for review and approval of printer proofs within specified timeframe to meet printing deadlines along with the storage of approved proofs.
Provide support for all Allergan component suppliers; site incoming inspection teams; local regulatory/labeling compliance personnel; marketing personnel; manufacturing sites; ECR Specialists and any others involved with labeling and packaging.
Accountable for adherence to Allergan graphics standards, quality standards, SOPs, work instructions and completion of artwork to time and cost.
As needed, assists with Paxpro training for users involved in the artwork process. Assists with post-training questions from users and problem solving within the Paxpro artwork process. Assures system is used according to standards and work instructions and the documents follow good documentation practices.
Understands the activities associated with the development of Allergan Engineering Change Request (ECR). Work with the ECR Specialists at the site and within the department to adhere to the current production processes.

The Graphics function within Global Labeling and Packaging Specifications provides services as follows: creation and editing of packaging artwork to support new product introductions; routine product labeling revisions and Marketing promotions through copy editing and proofreading; coordination with printers/converters; application of and adherence by subcontractors to Allergan Graphic and Labeling Compliance standards, as well as the departmental database management and the preparation of a wide variety of presentation and training material for the department.
The current package configurations are varied and include tubes, labels, cartons, corrugated shippers and displays, silk-screened bottles, folded and padded inserts, DFUs, displays and other collateral.
The Department provides services, which include the support of the design, development, creation, routing, and approvals of product specifications for manufacturing such as Engineering Change Requests.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with the maintenance of the Macintosh computer systems and barcode equipment used within the department. This includes troubleshooting, validation, and documentation of Macintosh computer systems, graphic applications, barcode equipment, barcode software and upgrades by determining initial system requirements while ensuring compliance to current standards and requirements. Monitor usage of system resources and integration of new peripherals.

Organizes, creates, proofreads, and approves electronic or conventional camera-ready artwork for all Allergan printed packaging components. Supports the coordination and preparation of updating all Allergan labeling and packaging artwork specifications in compliance with Allergan Regional and Corporate Regulatory standards. Consults with the appropriate departments during drafting stages to make the cycle more efficient. Reviews and proofreads text for adherence to correct spelling, grammar, placement of figures and lettering, factual and legal criteria in all languages. Assembles labeling specifications and other necessary information for components. Works with the Manufacturing sites, Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Marketing, and Operations to provide timely, accurate development and supply of artwork in agreement with project timelines and production schedules. Ensures artwork is developed within packaging specifications, corporate guidelines and the established process controls procedures in the department. Cooperate with other members of the department on packaging development projects requiring artwork support. Provides support to the structural engineering group on packaging projects. Provides innovation and creativity in the application of the printed or graphics message within the constraints imposed by manufacturing equipment and components.
Responsible for the review and approval of printer proofs within specified timeframe to meet printing deadlines along with the storage of approved proofs.
Macintosh computer: Assisting with validation and documentation of Macintosh computer systems, graphic applications, barcode equipment, barcode software and upgrades.
Artwork Management System:
Support Allergan’s artwork management system by assisting with standard operating procedure creation/updating, and validation support. Assist with training and supporting the system users, as needed. Accountable for the adherence to department standards regarding artwork documents issued in Allergan’s artwork management system and used by Allergan and third party sites supporting the development, manufacture and distribution of Allergan products.
Supports the area manager to maintain the Graphics department's output at peak efficiency with respect to costs of outside services, time to process/deliver charges, etc.
Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement of processes, equipment, organization, and print specifications. Helps to identify and correct any shortcomings affecting the entire system from initial job request at Allergan through delivered quality of the printed component. Interacts highly with the structural design group to ensure that the graphics electronic systems and the Computer Aided Design (CAD) communicate effectively.
Support the development of appropriate department procedures (SOPs) to ensure proper documentation, systems adherence, and employee training. Assists with the accurate creation, revision and maintenance of Labeling and Packaging records (SOPs, WI, etc.) through specified word processing and database applications such as CORAL and Paxpro.
Acts as technical expert on graphic and pre-press issues to support other company functional departments and outside vendors. Maintains up-to-date technologies on overall packaging and trends including environmental issues.
Assists with development and approval routing of ECRs. Ensures information for ECR is provided as required for all product labeling under line of responsibility.
RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY:

Education and Experience:
Four-year college degree or equivalent experience in Graphic Arts, Print Media or other closely related study.
Proven experience in electronic artwork production for varied types of packaging normally acquired through college education and a minimum of 3-5 years in industry. Must have demonstrable skill in current versions of Adobe Illustrator, In-Design, Photoshop, Acrobat, and barcode software. Must be able to demonstrate pre-press file preparation for service bureaus.
Experience in the Pharmaceutical and cGMP environment a major plus.
An ongoing interest in current hardware and software for graphics processing and the ability to apply this knowledge to the departments' system.
Essential Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of converting, printing, and packaging industry practices.
Experienced in pre-press printing tasks.
Proven ability in successful graphic design and retail point-of-purchase development throughout to finished product and final production.
Knowledge of overall graphic design applications.
Must have an understanding of print buying, planning, and supply for a Marketing-oriented Manufacturing environment.
Basic knowledge in CAD Engineering software AutoCAD, Ashlar Vellum, or similar software.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
Must be detail and quality oriented.
Above average computer literacy. Knowledge in working with different computer software such as database management, spreadsheets, project management, flowcharting, presentations, and/or any other similar type of programming. Familiar with software package names such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Microsoft Project, etc.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to multi-task
General knowledge of the operations of pharmaceutical manufacturing packaging equipment.
Experience working with a consumer products company.
Basic knowledge of SAP Basic Data/ECR process. 2 years Pharmaceutical product line experience.
Desirable knowledge or command of a second language.
