Tesoro Senior Process Controls Specialist (Network Administration Support) in Kenai, Alaska

This position provides control systems technical support of the refinery’s Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and integration third party devices including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and analyzers. Has accountability in supporting Human Machine Interface (HMI), alarm management, cyber security, plant historian (OSIsoft PI), and related fiber optics infrastructure. Performs a variety of duties including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, programming, startup, commissioning, and systems backup. Assists in adherence with Corporate Standards, Guidelines, Best Practices and site policies and procedures.

  • Key Responsibilities*

  • Maintains control systems equipment in the Process Control Environment (workstations, control and I/O modules, and network communications equipment) to keep the control systems online and operational at all times. Provide failure response coverage on a rotational basis (with other team members) to ensure 24 hour/7 day a week technical support.

  • Under direction from Senior Control Systems engineer, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains refinery specific DCS systems (Invensys Foxboro), interfaces, software, and applications. Responsible for installation of software and hardware upgrades.

  • Tunes regulatory control loops. Performs troubleshooting of the entire loop to identify source of control problems, and coordinates with other refinery groups to resolve.

  • Leads the control system loop check and commissioning phase on projects. Update and complete as-built documentation as appropriate.

  • Prepares and maintains documentation on refinery’s control systems hardware, software, and applications, including the control systems related infrastructure (air-blown fiber optic network).

  • Provides technical input to Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) review, and Management Of Change (MOC) processes.

  • Supports projects through technical contribution to specifications, hardware, and software design, testing, commissioning, and training.

  • Maintains the Master Alarm Database, alarm priority changes, inhibit/reset scripts, and monthly reporting.

  • Maintains integrity of the Standardized Security Architecture (SSA) within the process control environment, including updating antivirus signatures, installing operating system patches, modifying group and local policies, firewall changes, etc.

  • EDUCATION and Experience*

  • Minimum Associate degree in Computer, Instrument, or Electrical Technology, or related discipline required.

  • Undergraduate degree in a technical discipline preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years instrument or control systems technical support in refining or petrochemical industry required.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with recent Invensys Foxboro systems preferred.
