Do you enjoy working with children and want to put your Bachelor in Social Science to work? This *Psychiatric Child Care Counselor 1 (PCCC1) * job is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in working with children in an in-patient setting.

The Child Study and Treatment Center (CSTC) in Lakewood is expanding our team * *and we are looking for a caring and dedicated team member who has a passion for helping our children with mental health issues. There are three cottages on our campus: Ketron, Orcas, and Camano, you will be working as an on-call staff on varies cottages and varies shifts; which is great as you will get to know all of our cottages.

The CSTC is Washington's only state-operated psychiatric hospital for about 47 children and youth (ages 5 to 18). Because we are a small institution, we work as a close-knit team and you will have a sense of belonging and accomplishment.


*So what does a Psychiatric Child Care Counselor do? *

You will be working in a cottage interacting with our children, providing treatment, counseling and supervision. No day is like the other but no matter what the day brings, your duties will always include implementing the cottage program, age and developmentally appropriate approaches to our children and adolescent. You are there to encourage them to participate in different activities and groups in which you will also take part so you can lead by example.

Safety is the top priority in the cottage so we need you to monitor our patients and if there is an incident you need to document it. We are a firm believer in taking precaution so you might have to intervene to make sure our patients don't injure themselves or others.


Who should apply

You need to have you a Bachelor's degree or higher with emphasis in Social Sciences, Education, Recreation, Psychology or related field OR two years of college with emphasis in Social Sciences, Education, Recreation, Psychology or related field AND two years of social service experience OR equivalent education/experience.

NOTE: An Agency Affiliated Counselor Credential (AACC) or higher counseling-related credential from the Department of Health is required. Applicants who do not have an AACC at time of hire will be given up to 60 days to complete the DOH credentialing process.

Although not required, it would be a bonus if you had the ability to understand and utilize behavioral approaches such as Positive Behavioral Support (PBS), Life-Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI), Developmental and Dialectical Therapy techniques as well as work effectively with our population, their families and other health care workers and community contacts. We would like to hire someone who has knowledge of normal and abnormal growth and development, dynamics of interpersonal relationships, mental health concepts and community resources.
