The Accounting Policy Group is an integral component of finance's risk management process. The group operates as an in-house consultancy unit providing independent technical advice on accountancy matters to finance, risk and the business. The primary focus is to support high quality accounting and reporting standards within the parameters of US GAAP and IFRS.
The position is also responsible for:
Provide support to Citigroup businesses and business accounting advisory groups on accounting for new and unusual products and transactions, primarily related to M&A activity where Citigroup is a party to the transaction.
Identify accounting policy issues (e.g., as it related to business combinations, goodwill and long-lived asset impairment, consolidation, etc.), researching technical accounting literature, and advise internal clients on appropriate accounting guidance.
Prepare and review technical memos document research, analysis, and resolution of significant accounting issues.
Follow development of relevant US GAAP accounting standard setting at the Financial Accounting Stand interpretations from Big 4 accounting firms effecting Citigroup. Identify, analyze, and provide guidance to accounting policy teammates, controllers, and other members of senior management.
Assist implementation efforts for new accounting standards, primarily US GAAP but including IFRS.
Assist in developing disclosures for new standards in Citigroup's financial statements.
Assist in establishing, updating, and reviewing Citi's Accounting Policy Manual on an ad hoc and periodic basis to reflect changes in guidance and practice.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting required.
Knowledge of accounting and financial instruments under US GAAP and knowledge of financial markets is required, as is approximately 5 years or more of relevant work experience. Audit experience with a national CPA firm or accounting policy experience in another financial institution a plus.
Technical accounting and FASB experience a major plus.
We are looking for a really bright person with an aptitude for technical financial accounting standards. High marks on the CPA exam would be a positive.
The individual must possess excellent interpersonal and client service skills and have the ability to work closely and confidently with many different levels of management on the business side.
Excellent writing and verbal skills are essential. An ability to communicate clearly and precisely is fundamental to the accounting policy role.
Strong negotiation, research, analytical, organization and drafting skills are also necessary. The successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task while working on long-term projects. The candidate should be a fast thinker/quick learner and possess the ability to work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment in order to meet deadlines. She or he will also need to be able to work autonomously as an effective member of a dynamic team.
Candidate should be proficient in Word and Excel and have basic knowledge of PowerPoint.
