The New York Public Library Receiving Associate in Manhattan, New York

Under the supervision of the Receiving Manager, the receiving clerk is responsible for processing Library Shop orders which includes:

  • Checking in deliveries against packing slips and purchase orders and reporting any discrepancies;

  • Pricing and occasionally packaging merchandise

  • Distributing merchandise to shop and storage areas

  • Maintaining all stock areas so merchandise is readily found and easily identifiable

  • Learning the Shop’s POS and inventory system and using it for daily tasks with minimum supervision.

  • Performing related duties as required

  • Detail oriented

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks without losing focus

  • Organizational and communication skills

  • Visual Memory

  • Some college preferred; high school diploma minimum

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to perform detailed and repetitive work accurately and neatly

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Demonstrated reliability and flexibility

  • Demonstrated computer and related technology skills

  • Experience working in a retail environment preferred

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to bend and lift heavy objects on a daily basis

  • Must pass physical exam
