The Quality Control Laboratory Analyst performs analytical tests on samples of crude oil, gasses, gas liquids, gasoline, diesel, coke, process streams and waters. The Laboratory Analyst may carry out special testing for projects related to improvement of refinery processes. The Lab Analyst may be assigned to work either shift or straight days in any location of the Golden Eagle Refinery.


-The Analyst may be assigned to the performance of any duties for which they have been trained or qualified. Specific responsibilities will vary with assignment and training. All assignments will include conformance to basic rules of conduct, safety and good housekeeping practices.

-The Analyst is expected to perform work in a safe manner at all times, and to correct the unsafe behavior of anyone else working in his or her vicinity.

-The Analyst is expected to always conduct business with others in a respectful and professional manner.

-The Analyst is expected to manage the work load to complete their analytical duties in a timely manner.

-The Analyst will be required to prioritize work and make decisions based on these prioritizations. They will be required to actively communicate with our customers during this prioritization process.

-Analysts undergo a lengthy process of EDUCATION and training. During this EDUCATION and training process, work performance will be assessed by the Analyst’s demonstrated mastery of fundamentals, technique, principles and procedures.

-The Analyst is expected to actively participate in their training process, and to improve their knowledge or maintain currency during any free time.

-While performing analytical duties, the Analyst is expected to discern when there are any analytical problems, and work to solve those problems through troubleshooting and consulting.

-While performing analytical duties, the Analyst is expected to discern if any particular analytical result indicates an abnormal unit condition, and take immediate steps to notify the unit of the analytical result.

-Performs other unspecified duties under the direction of supervision.


-Minimum: High School diploma or GED.

-Prefer 4 or more completed semesters of college chemistry.

-Must be medically cleared and physically able to work in all areas of the refinery and perform all job requirements outlined utilizing required safety gear. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

-Must obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) for ongoing unescorted access into Refinery from perimeter gates.

-Must be comfortable working in confined spaces and high elevations, and be physically capable of entering all refinery towers and vessels when/where necessary.

-Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

-Must be able to perform work in a team environment, demonstrating honesty and integrity, and show a willingness to lern.

-Must be organized and possess ability to keep accurate legible documentation of work.

-Requires safe work practices to ensure safety is a fundamental part of every task. Follow all safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping practices.

-Requires ability to respond to refinery needs outside of normally scheduled work hours and take ownership of all work performed.

-General knowledge of refinery process units and process knowledge preferred.


-Requires ability to pass a series of Written Science Based Chemistry tests.

-Requires strong computer skills including but not limited to LTS, LIMS, M.S. Office including, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

-Requires strong interpersonal skills; with strong oral, writing skills. Must possess ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

-Knowledge of regulatory and industry requirements including but not limited to PSM, CCC ISO, OSHA, Cal OSHA, API, EPA and other applicable regulations preferred.

-Requires strong mechanical and troubleshooting abilities on individual devices and systems.

-Must demonstrate proper analytical technique.

-Not required, but highly advantageous are:

-Personal experience in laboratory analysis, especially in refinery laboratory testing.

-Personal experience with statistics and statistical quality control.
