The selectee will serve as a Family Practice Physician providing full range of medical services for pediatric to geriatric patients onsite in the Family Medicine Clinic within the assigned unit of the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).

In this position, you will perform meaningful professional work in the field of Family Medicine. A typical day includes the following:

  • Provide the full range of medical services for Active Duty Military personnel.
  • Examine patients, determine diagnosis and provide treatment, and prescribe medications.
  • Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through education and counseling;
  • Maintain awareness of legal issues in patient care and strives to reduce risk;
  • Serve as an instructor and mentor for medical students; physician assistants, and the Family Practice Residency Program;
  • Participate in resident evaluations;
  • Conduct peer review and participate in performance improvement activities in accordance with established command policies.

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:


  • EDUCATION: MD or DO from an accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your degree from a foreign medical school? If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate. Please make sure your application includes your ECFMG or 5th Pathway Certificate number including date awarded.

  • EXPERIENCE: 5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Family Medicine (i.e., 3 yrs. Residency & 2 yrs. fellowship and/or experience)? Your resume must reflect that you have a sufficient level of expertise to perform the core privileges of this Physician (Family Practice) position at the GP-15 Level.

  • LICENSE: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.


Satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, include the following:

  • Completion of a residency in Family Medicine approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.

  • Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Family Medicine Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).

  • No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.

  • Board certification is desired but not required.
