The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), is seeking to hire for on call Cook 1 positions. We are looking for people who have a passion for cooking to join our team. You will thrive on the daily challenges and opportunities that make a real difference to the clients and residents at Lakeland Village located in Medical Lake, WA.

If you are looking for an opportunity to serve as a team member in an institutional type setting, this is the job for you. Working as a Cook 1, you will participate in the preparation and service of all food on a shift.

About Lakeland Village

Lakeland Village is a 24-hour Residential Habilitation Center that provides all facets of training, education and healthcare for about 250 individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Lakeland Village uses an extensive day program that involves sensory integrative and interactive techniques such as touch, pressure, massage, aromatherapy, relaxation, music, environmental controls, micro technology, audio/visual sensory stimulating activities, and movement.

The Role

As the Cook 1, you will prepare and cook meals (such as casseroles, roasts, vegetables and other dishes) for all clients and residents following a production sheet. You will follow and adjust recipes to make the appropriate amount of food; take and record temperatures of food and cooling units daily, texture food, and clean and sanitize the kitchen following State, Federal and Local Health Codes and Policies.

You will have the opportunity to provide assistance to Food Service Workers when preparing food.

Who We're Interested In

We need someone who has one year of cooking experience in food preparation or cooking. If you have completed a course in large-scale cooking, this may be substituted for the one year of experience.

Additionally, we need someone who:

  • Is able to work in an environment where they will be exposed to loud noises (alarms, beepers and other tones).
  • Is prepared to work around individuals with developmental disabilities and may be dually diagnosed with a mental illness any of whom may present severe behavioral challenges including bizarre and aggressive behavior.
  • Is able to obtain a food handlers card with 14 days of employment.
  • Is able to perform the physical requirements of this position. This recruitment has been extended. We review applications weekly and encourage you to apply as early as you can.
