Employees in positions allocated to this series use their knowledge of engineering, chemistry, health, food science, microbiology, biotechnology, and other sciences to propose, prepare, conduct, direct, and analyze operations data, experiments and plant trials. The objective is to further knowledge and/or develop new and better processes, products and productivity improvements. Some engineers engage in process development (such as development of new processing strategy or equipment), in productivity improvements and some in quality resolution for making robust processes. Differences in levels relate principally to greater depth and breadth of knowledge and experience applied to examining more complex systems and in experiments/projects and in the degree of independent judgment/action allowed in bringing efforts to a conclusion.

Employees in positions at this level of the series will primarily provide independent project planning and execution as well as provide project assistance to others in various Manufacturing and technology groups throughout Solae as well as provide independent project planning and execution. Work will primarily be completed in our manufacturing facilities. Engineers in this role will be responsible to provide technical process expertise and training to manufacturing operations to maintain production performance and restore process capability. In addition to supporting production, engineers will be responsible to develop, lead, and execute projects for continuous improvement in process safety, yield, process control, capacity, and uptime performance. These improvement projects may range from incremental improvements to larger scale technology changes.

Job Duties & Accountabilities

  1. Design and lead process improvements to improve process capability. This includes analyzing data for ongoing operations to provide directions on improvements for quality, cost, and capacity utilization. Includes the use of mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams, and statistical analysis tools.

  2. Lead definition and implementation of process improvement Capital Projects, including developing Capital Projects justifications, Business Objectives Letters and providing basic data packages.

  3. Develop and communicate variances and lead projects to provide improvements in operating standards and equipment to meet Solae goals on quality and productivity.

  4. Serves as first response to plant technical issues and assist in trouble shooting process or equipment issues.

  5. Continuously build a body of technical knowledge around DuPont N&H unit operations and processes

  6. Lead process safety management functions like PHA reviews, MOC/PSSRs, and PSM audits.

  7. Help train personnel and build knowledge in the manufacturing line organization to maintain and enhance operations capability. This includes mentoring less experienced Engineers.

  8. Design and execute experiments and plant trials to improve the processes at the Solae Site.

  9. Lead site specific programs or projects leveraging Site plus Global and External resources. Exert personal influence cross functionally to define solutions to technical issues. Develop Capital Projects justifications, Business Objectives Letters and Lead Process plans for Capital project implementation. Support global programs for Solae.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemical, Food, Biochemical, Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering

  • 5-10 years of Process Engineering duties with unit operations applicable to Solae (extraction, separation, sterilization/pasteurization, drying, etc.)

Knowledge of

  1. Theories, principles, methods and procedures of applicable field of engineering

  2. Statistics and experimental design

  3. MS Office package including Visio

  4. PSM principles

  5. Safety practices and policies.

  6. Specialty Emphasis Networks

  7. Quality Systems Policies and Procedures.

  8. SAP systems and capabilities
