Coding Coordinator - Emergency Medicine - 170021XR DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general supervision of the Department Administrator or his/her Designee and a dotted line reporting relationship to the Director of Patient Business Services, the Coding Coordinator supervises the coders for the department. The Coding Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the professional coding function within all practice locations of the department in accordance with the coding guidelines established by the UW Medical Foundation (UWMF). The Coding Coordinator, in conjunction with the Department Administrator or his/her Designee, shall be accountable for: (i) ensuring that standards established by UWMF relating to coding staff productivity and accuracy and date-of-service to date-of-posting are consistently met (ii) promoting and facilitating efficiency and effectiveness of coding related systems, including documentation, (iii) ensuring timely charge capture of all services, (iv) managing the Epic charge review work queues, (v) assisting with third party follow-up, (vi) assisting in implementation of policies and procedures, (vii) coordinating coder/provider communication, and (viii) being involved in day-to-day coding. The Coding Coordinator, as requested by the Department Administrator or his/her Designee is responsible for attending appropriate organizational meetings and providing input for decision-making process. This position will lead other coding team members by providing training and review of work. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. This is a full-time position with 40 hours per week. Additional hours could be required to assist with department operational needs. UW Health offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Physical Requirements: Sedentary: Ability to lift up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one, which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met. Proficiency in PC Software including e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheet programs.
