About the Agency

The selectee for this position will serve as a Tools and Parts Attendant in the Engineering Business Line of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

  • Update and maintain an online inventory file of all tools in the custody of a tool room or assigned tool crib.
  • Determine when tools and materials require test, repair, or calibration to verify they meet quality standards.
  • Use manufacturer's specifications to decide when tools or equipment should be sent to shops for test, repair, or adjustment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the Tools & Parts Attendant position without more than normal supervision such as: 1)Selecting issued items from stock through routine identification with tools used in sheet metal, carpenter, plumber and electrical trades; 2) Utilizing microcomputers or other application software to operate the tool room check-in and out program; 3) Performing operations testing and/or inspection of tools and equipment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Requirements: All qualifications requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326. Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. Physical Demands: Work requires considerable walking and some prolonged standing, may be required to bend, stoop, and kneel in performance of duty. Frequently lifts and carries that weigh up to 40 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items that weigh over 40 pounds. Occasionally it well be necessary to perform work in inclement weather and extreme temperature. Work Environment:Most work is performed inside building with concrete floor that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Occasionally work is performed in other maintenance shops when performing periodic preventative maintenance checks. Incumbent is subject to minor cuts and bruises while operating machinery and is exposed to dirt, oil, grease, and cleaning solvent/fumes. Incumbent is required to wear safety shoes, glasses, and other appropriate equipment in performance of work. The incumbent is exposed to normal hazards associated with construction work and industrial operations and weather conditions while making inspections. During this time, personal protection equipment (PPE) must be used. This may include: a hard hat, safety, shoes, protective clothing, respirator, protective eyewear and earplugs. This position may require overtime/emergency/call back work. Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. The incumbent must be able to recognize color identification for electrical wiring, etc.
