McKesson Pharmacy Systems and Automation (MPS&A) is seeking a high performer to join our EnterpriseRx software development team. MPS&A offers an array of integrated pharmacy software solutions for the health care industry. Position Description

Imagine the incredible energy expended in building, deploying and maintaining the configuration of a large, complex enterprise-class, multi-tiered software system that is used by 10’s of thousands of people every day. The industry norm is that the deployment portion of the software development lifecycle is typically a mirror of the complexity of the system. At MPS&A we’re seeking to add a member to our Software Configuration Management Engineering team, creating space for that team to evolve and eventually achieve our goal of automated, seamless deployment, configuration, and validation to increase our speed to market. We want this person to help influence a change of mindset that makes building and deploying the system something that’s accessible to everyone on the team. We have a vision and enlightened team members, and are looking for someone that will help us in realizing the future state.

This SW CM Engineer will work with the current CM Team, Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Test Analysts, Implementation Specialists, Hosting and Infrastructure team members to develop resilient build systems. They are encouraged to favor simple self-describing solutions over complicated ones requiring greater long-term personalized attention. This initiative is driven by a desire for our R&D department to go faster and deliver more. You will be front and center on one of the most important internal projects to which we have ever committed. Success will depend as much on how you work as what you do. You must have strong, fundamental work management skills and passion with the social ability to adapt to the needs of the individuals with whom you will interact. Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn our current processes and technologies that we leverage to build, deploy and manage the configuration of development and QA environments

  • Conduct a system analysis to assess where investment is needed to improve the speed and resiliency of our build and deployment systems

  • Research and recommend technology to be employed in activating your recommendations

  • Educate and socialize patterns and practices that contribute to deployability and serviceability

  • Commit to maximum up time for development and QA environments

Additional Team Responsibilities:

  • Administer applications and platforms, including source control, issue tracking, and code review systems

  • Maintain plugins and customizations for these systems to support engineering and business needs

  • Develop build, deploy, and provisioning scripts


Minimum Requirements

2+ years experience in programming on enterprise or department servers or systems

Critical Skills

  • Experience in diverse software engineering methodologies, such as agile, waterfall and iterative

  • Extensive experience with UNIX command line and shell scripting

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce explanations/documentation that are easily consumable by the target audience

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience designing and developing high volume, enterprise-level Java and Oracle systems

  • Willingness to learn, develop, and contribute in a fun, fast-paced team environment
