Description Purpose This position is responsible for all aspects of planning, organizing, and implementing the goals of the WVU Women’s Business Center (WBC), which aims to assist women in starting and growing small businesses.
Responsible to oversee, plan, direct, and coordinate organizational activities including policy formulation, management of daily operations, and resource stewardship consistent with business objectives. Oversees procurement, human resources, communications, finance, general operations and office support. Provides operational leadership; requires creativity, and interpretive abilities to effectively resolve complex problems. Work effort has significant impact on personnel, budget and operations, producing major organizational, legal and financial results and/or liability.
Duties & Responsibilities Responsibilities are managerial in nature, and performed with nominal supervision. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to: 1) Organize and administer the operations of the WVU WBC while promoting the creation of new women-owned small businesses. 2) Administer and direct business training and technical assistance programs and services of the WVU WBC. 3) Market and promote WVU WBC programs and services within the prescribed service area. 4) Establish and maintain relationships with local financial institutions, relevant service providers, the local business community and other stakeholders in the community. 5) Assist in securing and maintaining grant funding. 6) Maintain adequate client files and other program documentation. 7) Collaborate with various organizations that are involved in economic and business development in the service area to develop programming, training events, and conferences. 8) Provide one-on-one counseling and coaching to existing and prospective entrepreneurs providing clients with guidance in all aspects of business management. 9) Assess the needs of small business owners and recommend and implement a plan of action. 10) Supervise personnel; conduct performance evaluation, training, and work allocation.
Supervisory/Lead Role This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. This position will independently direct and coordinate operational function(s) with general guidance of the Associate Vice President. Personnel supervision and work coordination of staff is required. In addition, general sharing of knowledge and team participation is expected in the role. Program, project or activity lead responsibilities will occur in this position.
Physical Demands Requires the ability to stand for long periods, walk, sit, stoop, bend at waist, have manual dexterity and feel, grasp, reach, talk, and hear. Activities are predominantly non-manual. Employee will be required to travel on a frequent basis. It will be necessary for the incumbent to be able to lift/carry equipment and/or supplies up to 25 lbs. Activities require manual skill to provide and/or alter services and/or products.
Work Environment This position will travel on a frequent basis exposing the incumbent to varying weather conditions. Incumbent is responsible to learn and comply with all safety procedures.
Requirements Requisite Qualifications Education and/or Experience 1) Bachelor’s degree in business, law, public administration, marketing, or finance; 2) 8 - 10 years of experience working with diverse groups, specifically women and minorities, including 3 - 5 years of supervisory or program management experience; Or 3) An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations 1) Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications & Credentials Education and/or Experience 1) Advanced degree is preferred. 2) Desktop publishing (Adobe Suite) and website design experience is a plus.
