Description Positions are part-time (28hpw or less) with variable, intermittent work schedule. Positions available through the state’s fiscal year, with potential annual renewal.
Purpose Assists with general facility oversight, support for donors, and data collection from Phase I clinical research studies.
Duties & Responsibilities Responsibilities are functional in nature, and performed under supervision. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to: 1) Review Study Protocol and sign the confidentiality statement. 2) Sign the Study Scheduling Sheet. 3) Assist with checking volunteers into and out of the unit for assigned procedures. 4) Ensure that all subjects are dressed in appropriate scrubs. 5) Ensure that all subjects have name tags on and are visible to staff. 6) Assist with general observation of volunteers during confinement, including night observation duties. 7) Ensure appropriate measures to assure subject safety. 8) Provide required meals and fluid to subjects as outlined in the protocol and document on appropriate source documents. 9) Function as an escort and bathroom monitor as needed. 10) Collect listing of volunteer requests and provide to Study Monitor. 11) Ensure that all subjects have wristbands on with dosing times added. 12) Ensure that subjects are ready for blood collections and prepare supplies as needed. 13) Participate in the process of collecting adverse events. 14) Participate in the conduction of screening procedures. 15) Perform vital sign collection as needed. 16) Perform pulse oximeter testing as needed. 17) Ensure that duties are performed as outlined in the protocol and recorded accurately and legibly on source documents. 18) Check source documents for accuracy and completeness at the end of your shift. 19) Assist with general housekeeping procedures. 20) Report any protocol deviations to the Study Monitor. 21) Report any screening deviations to the Screening Department. 22) Perform other duties as assigned by the Study Unit Manager or designee.
Supervisory/Lead Role This position reports to the Clinical Technical Training Manager.
Physical Demands This position requires standing and bending in the assessment and treatment of patients; requires manual dexterity used in processing the samples, prolonged periods of sitting and the ability to walk short distances. Work activities may require the use of elevators and/or stairs. Activities are predominantly non-manual though some manual work may be included.
Work Environment Work is performed in a normal clinic/hospital setting and a processing lab. Exposure to diseases, body fluids, chemical and biologic hazards is possible. Responsible to know and comply with all safety procedures. Incumbent may experience the following and require medical monitoring: a) Contact with Human Blood* or Other Potentially Infectious Material (OPIM)- includes human body fluids other than feces, urine, tears and sweat; b) Patient Contact- having contact with a patient, or with potentially contaminated items including (but not limited to) blood and/or body fluids.
Requirements Requisite Qualifications Education and/or Experience 1) High School diploma or GED; And 2) Related experience; Or 3) An equivalent combination of education and experience
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations 1) CPR Certification, or must establish within six (6) months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications & Credentials Education and/or Experience 1) Completion of training in a vocational health occupation program. 2) Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or equivalent with current WV license or certification. 3) Clinical research experience.
