Rutgers University Program Manager- HAL (Temporary) in New Brunswick, New Jersey
Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Program Manager for States of Incarceration (SOI) which will be reporting to the Associate Director, the Humanities Action Lab (HAL).
The Program Manager collaborates with HAL’s network of partners around the country, including universities, cultural institutions, and issue organizations to manage, expand, and create a plan for sustaining the SOI project. SOI is a traveling exhibit, web platform, and series of public dialogues on the past, present, and future of mass incarceration. This position is dependent on external funding.
The Program Manager is expected to perform in compliance with the procedures, policies, and processes of HAL, FASN, RU-N, and Rutgers systems as well as relevant external policies and regulations of stakeholders, external partners, and funders. This person is expected to perform in a manner that furthers the mission of HAL, FASN, and RU-N and contributes to strategic goals and professionally represents HAL and University at events and meetings and with all stakeholders.
The Program Manager’s duties include but are not limited to:
Surfaces the learning from SOI and applies it to HAL’s next project and overall strategic plan.
Designs, develops, and implements an effective communication strategy and campaigns for SOI, including, but not limited to, social media, press pieces, podcasts, and partner communication.
Writes effective funding proposals and reports and develops and updates thorough and accurate budgets.
Effectively and efficiently maintains project budgets.
Accurately and in a timely manner submits and tracks invoices, reimbursements, and expenditures for all project-related expenses.
Effectively and efficiently supports the completion of HAL’s strategic plan, identifying specific goals and objectives for growing, diversifying, and sustaining SOI.
Effectively collaborates with Program Manager for Future Projects ensuring work on projects is coordinated and complementary, and that each project amplifies the other.

Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
Ph.D preferred in history, anthropology, memory, or related work in the humanities and demonstrated experience in project management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires experience and/or knowledge in history, anthropology, memory, or related work in the humanities and demonstrated experience in project management. Demonstrated experience coordinating and/or leading diverse groups of people. Experience with social media and editing websites. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, and to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University and external community.
