The Position Mission

The Director of Operations Analytics will manage the Operations Analytical Team, and support the SVP of Operations by identifying opportunities to achieve cost savings, reduce waste, increase revenue and increase team productivity from post sale through interconnection of solar systems. The Director will also lead a small team of analysts to create, manage and support the operational reporting and analytic needs of the Installation Operations department and company operational KPI data at Sungevity. This role will influence operational strategy, help ensure data integrity, and provide insightful analysis to the business.


  • Analyzes the relevant data, optimizing the processes and controlling the process output

  • Manage Ops Business Analyst Team to meet individual, team and departmental goals

  • Identifies opportunities/issues within processes and manages continuous improvement

  • Provide analytical support for cross functional projects and research factors underpinning major strategy questions

  • Develop multigenerational plan, prioritization criteria for work hierarchy, CTQ criteria and alignment with campaigns and projects to achieve immediate results and develop medium and long term recommendations

  • Hold periodic, focused reviews with business leadership to assess progress, status and issues in achieving program goals

  • Provide analytical support for cross-functional projects by working through major strategy questions and researching factors underpinning business process within 2-3 months

  • Ensure effective communication with leaders, business stakeholder and software teams to solve problems and prioritize work to deliver solutions and feedback

  • Support Business Leaders by conducting, analyzing and leading rigorous data mining to provide business insights within 2-3 months

  • Improve data strategy and data usage by proactively identifying opportunities (i.e. foreseeing problems and bringing solutions) within 2-4 months

  • Ensure critical reporting metrics for the department and company KPIs metrics are maintained via documentation and quality control procedures within 4-8 weeks

  • Ensure further development of analysts by training Analysts in development best practices, documentation and skill sets within the 2-6 months

  • Should lead and drive/deliver transformational initiatives towards enhancements /effectiveness /efficiency with various stake holders in driving process changes/value additions

  • Advanced computing skills including experience with MS Office and data visualization tools (Tibco Spotfire experience preferred)


  • Quantify economic impact of internal and external variables of business process impacts and departmental performance (i.e. business impact, dollar impact of process changes)

  • Develop analytical best practices plan and implementation strategy for Operations within 6-12 months

  • Improve and simplify current data structure, reporting and tools by helping standardize data definitions and supporting data initiatives for Operations within 6-12 months

  • Perform data analysis to facilitate delivery of dashboard, reports and KPI metric to end users and distribute work to team to support departmental user data needs

  • Track project pipeline for internal users and financial partners by maintaining current reports and tools and developing enhanced operational reports and tools within 2-3 months of on boarding

  • Manage tracking of departmental reporting requests and completion by all analyst within team in 4 weeks

  • Standardize core reporting tools regarding operational installation metrics, labor cost and rework tracking

  • Develop and manage reporting project plans by analysts for long term projects within 2-6 weeks and support ad-hoc reporting within 4 weeks by constructing business specific analysis

  • Support Sungevity Operation Managers by developing and simplifying specialized data structures/abstracts within 6 month to year


  • Detail-oriented – Does not let important details slip through the cracks, yet able to manage a high volume of work with tight deadlines. Can manage large data sets, find trends, clean data, sort for key points

  • Analytical Thinking - Analyzes and synthesizes information to understand root issues, formulates hypotheses, and supports sound decision-making by developing data analysis, solutions, and implementing process enhancements

  • Follow-Through – Lives up to verbal and written agreements, can lead and implement project plan from initial plan to close of project with defined results

  • Communication Skills – Speaks/writes clearly and articulately without being overly verbose. Maintains this standard in all forms of written communication, including emails. Develops clear analysis related to business case importance as well as presentations for department users, business leaders and executives.

  • Proactivity – Exhibits strong drive to proactively identify and implement process improvements. Self-directed following departmental and manager guidance (not necessary to micro manage).

Skill Sets & Tools

  • Working experience in analytics and managing data analytic teams

  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis, forecasting or modeling leading to operational performance improvement, establishing data standards and quality controls within reporting

  • Experience reporting to executives and working cross functionally with stakeholders preferred

  • Highly proficient with at least one database query protocol (MySQL strongly preferred); ability to develop complex database queries. Experience managing databases preferred

  • Experience with R, Python, HTML/CSS, or JavaScript is a preferred

  • Strong computing skills including experience with MS Office (Access Database, advanced Excel/Macros)knowledge of and data visualization tools (Tibco Spotfire experience preferred)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate statistical evidence of business insights to an audience of non-analysts

  • Data science skills and work experience preferred

  • Familiarly/experience with renewable energy and energy monetization preferred
