Responsibilities:

Decontaminating Area: Collects and transports materials from throughout the hospital while following procedure and complying with Joint Commission standards and other agency guidelines.

1.1 According to established schedules, ensures safe transport in collection of all surgical instrument sets and specialty trays from Surgery, E.R., Family Birthplace, Heart Cath Lab, and other special procedures to the decontamination area.

1.2 According to established schedules, collects and transports linen and equipment throughout the hospital changing plastic liners in stationary soiled containers when needed.

1.3 Maintains the Decontamination area in a condition that insures the safe and clean operation of the decontamination process, insuring that the area is secure at all times in regard to controlled access. In addition, demonstrates the initiative to determine what actions are necessary to accomplish this responsibility and interjects new ideas and ways of doing things to maximize quality and efficiency.

Decontamination Processing: Cleans and disposes of materials in a timely and appropriate manner to ensure a safe environment, following procedures and complying with Joint Commission standards and other agency guidelines.

2.1 Decontaminates all reusable equipment received from various departments, and returns them to their designated storage areas according to procedure.

2.2 Promptly and thoroughly cleans equipment according to appropriate procedures, rendering it safe for further handling. Prioritize instrument and equipment decontamination.

2.3 Utilization of Agiletrack to locate the miscellaneous equipment.

Equipment Operation: Ensures proper equipment operation through appropriate maintenance procedures following established procedure and complying with Joint Commission and other agency guidelines.

3.1 Maintains equipment in the work area through consistent and regular cleaning according to established schedules.

3.2 Polishes all stainless steel equipment surfaces according to established schedules on a consistent basis.

3.3 Ensures that all returned equipment that has been marked defective and in need of repair by medical staff personnel is clean before forwarding to Bio Medical Engineering.

Work Area Safety: Employs environmentally and physically safe work practices, following procedure and complying with Joint Commission guidelines.

4.1 Exhibits correct attire for performance of job tasks; in addition to scrub uniform to include goggles, gloves, gown, cap, and shoe covers where appropriate. Must vary attire requirements according to specific task, following established procedures.

4.2 To ensure the safety of staff and others, closely follows procedures for the disposal and decontamination of all items and utilizing the appropriate equipment, protective attire and preventive procedures available.

4.3 Ensures that the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained in all areas of decontamination, including the equipment wash room area. Special attention should be paid to leaving the area at the end of a shift with everything in its proper location and all surfaces clean.

4.4 Reports any and all hazardous conditions or incidents of injury to the Logistics Supervisor immediately. Hazards such as spills or breakage should be cleaned up immediately to prevent injury.

Data Entry and System Management: Performs computer operations accurately to ensure financial responsibility is documented and recorded accurately.

5.1 Manage all computer responsibilities to ensure the accurate financial tracking of all transactions for supply distribution and inventory related procedures.

5.2 Ensures that a bar-coded bin label exists for all Distribution items. Accuracy and legibility are critical due to potential misapplication of medical/surgical supplies.

5.3 Monitor the charge labels created by the system for each patient chargeable item to ensure accuracy on the procedure code and description information.

5.4 Reports inventory quantity on-hand discrepancies to the Inventory Coordinator or Logistics Supervisor immediately.

5.5 Participates in the taking of scheduled physical inventories.

Inventory Control and Distributions of Supplies: Monitors and distributes inventory items to Par Carts (Supply Carts and/or Nurse server Cabinets/Carts) by maintaining established levels of supplies (including linen in Nurse server Cabinets) and ensures accurate charging to departments, and/or patients according to procedure, so that the needs of all users are met with reliable and dependable service.

Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience: One year of general work experience required, preferably in Materiel Management.

Other: Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
