Job Title: Deli Assistant Department Manager

FSLA Status: Hourly

Immediate Supervisor: Deli Department Manager

Provides leadership to the Deli Department by working closely with all deli associates in an effort to ensure an enjoyable shopping experience is consistently delivered, all company policies and procedures are being followed, Contributes to store sales and profitability by effectively managing all aspects of the deli operations, to include but not limited to: labor, expenses, stock levels, and customer service.


  • Follows all company and department policies and operation procedures
  • Complies with federal and state regulations
  • Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co workers
  • Adheres to all cleaning and sanitation guidelines


1) Performs tasks as delegated by the deli department manager and help effectively lead the deli department

  • Handles business operations items such as: Huddle Ups, coaching sessions, performance reviews, event notes, training checklists, emails, and store sales and profitability (labor tool)

2) Leads, coaches, teaches, and reinforces Festival culture, customer service, and performance expectations to all deli associates.

  • Trains new deli associates
  • Develops key associates to take the next step in the company
  • Conducts performance reviews of deli associates
  • Writes the schedule for associates
  • Adheres to company standards in terms of associate attendance
  • Completes infraction forms and switch shift forms for associates
  • Documents violations of company policies/procedures by deli associates and conducts the appropriate corrective action
  • Delegates and oversees all tasks being accomplished
  • Answers all questions and provides guidance to all deli associates
  • Implements new standards and store policies

3) Oversees all aspects of the department and that they are running smoothly

  • Fulfill all special orders, or delegate an employee to execute them
  • Composes a production list for entire department
  • Ensures correct signage is represented throughout the department
  • Makes sure entire department is full and faced at all times, containing no holes
  • Ensures cleanliness of entire deli department
  • Communicates with other leads throughout department to ensure cohesiveness

4) Maintains an accurate stock level of all items

  • Involved with inventory
  • 5) Provides customer service to guests
  • Assists guest with finding the items they are looking for
  • Takes orders for special requests
  • Packages and prices items to guarantee fullness of service case
  • Answers the telephone and assists callers using proper phone etiquette
  • Addresses guest concerns and resolves issues when a guest is not satisfied with the service or product received

6) Assists all department associates with daily responsibilities while leading by example

7) Contributes to overall cleanliness of the department by picking up, organizing, and cleaning work areas, shelving, and sales floor as needed

8) Responsible for the department’s timekeeping accuracy. Communicate to HR regarding any missing time, transferred hours, and schedule issues.

9) Required to maintain food safety logs.

10) Ensure all quality standards are being met, including quantity expectations at 100% by 10 am and 5 pm.

  • High School Education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Understands being in a leadership role and how to motivate a team of individuals
  • Must posses great oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of technology and the use of a computer
  • Thorough knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishable department operations, merchandising skills, and must be able to make timely and effective decisions
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with customers and all personnel
  • Knowledge and understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies
  • Must possess the ability to apply on-the-job safety training to recognize and react to possible safety hazards on store premises. Also requires proper training and knowledge of the following equipment/procedures: Hand jack, slicers, baler, trash compactor, fryer, oven, grinders, and mixers
  • Must have WI Certified Food Manager License (Festival will pay in order to get certified if not)


  • Stand in place for a long period of time, bend, stoop, and kneel regularly
  • Full range of upper body motion
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures


  • The Deli Assistant Department Manager is a full time hourly position scheduled 40 hours per week
  • The most common shift would be 10am-6pm, but may change as needed by the department. This also includes, weekdays, weekends, holidays, and one night shift per week.
