BMO Financial Group Financial Planning Solutions Advisor, BMO Wealth in Ontario, Canada


This role is part of the Enterprise Wealth Planning Group’s team of subject matter experts and acts as a point of contact for providing financial planning support to the various sales forces in integrating financial planning as part of their practice and specifically in the use the enterprise’s financial planning software application, NaviPlan. Incumbents leverage their deep subject matter expertise to directly respond to queries via phone or email, or as team member on projects and program teams to all levels of planning questions (practical, technical) and to guide Advisors in development and building of a comprehensive wealth plan including coaching on all elements of the plan. Support the quality of planning in all LOB’s by providing guidance, input, plan review feedback by coaching to NaviPlan users by utilizing a deep understanding of the financial planning process and modeling expertise.


Wealth Planning (60%)

  • Provide direction to investment professionals across the enterprise to build client relationships through financial planning and the use of NaviPlan

  • Prepare financial plans on behalf of Nesbitt Burns and Private Bank. (develop plan, identify business and revenue opportunities, debrief advisors on opportunities and prep them to present plans to clients)

  • Provide direction and guide users with questions regarding the application of financial planning principles and concepts

  • Assist Advisors to identify opportunities assist/guide Advisors in leveraging the wealth planning process to increase share of wallet.

  • Assist in the development of plans for PCD Wealth Management Consultants to deliver to high net worth client’s wealth planning professionals and act as a resource to other client facing wealth planning professionals within the Enterprise.

Provide Subject matter expertise (30%)

  • Provide Wealth Planning subject matter expertise to advisors and planners and enterprise initiatives.

  • Maintain awareness of latest legislative and other financial industry changes that may affect Financial Planning

  • Develop tools and act as part of/or facilitate project management in order to encourage adoption of Financial Planning

  • Contribute to the development of support materials related to financial planning, such as reference guides, FAQ’s, Quick Tips and other relevant planning documents and Job Aids.

  • Perform quality review and audit functions – Check accuracy and quality of Financial Plans created by users to mitigate risk to the organization (in accordance to process and standards set).

  • When required test upgrades to NaviPlan and other planning tools.

Business Processes/Operational effectiveness (10%)

  • Assist in identifying business requirements for NaviPlan and participate in user-acceptance testing of upgrades to NaviPlan

  • Identify limitations and issues with NaviPlan software design based on Financial Planning knowledge (ie assumptions errors or calculation errors) and communicate through formal Change Request process

  • Provide ongoing wealth planning expertise to continuously improve upon various documents, projects, NaviPlan and related Financial Planning tools/resources.


  • Minimum 5 years of financial planning experience

  • Canadian Securities Course designation

  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP)/Personal Financial Planner Designation (PFP) or equivalent.

  • Possess broad/diverse knowledge of the investment business and the overall Bank's retirement products, services, systems, and distribution channels.

  • Strong understanding of advanced financial planning concepts

  • Experience interacting with and selling to advisors

  • Experience with financial planning software (NaviPlan preferred)


  • Excellent computer skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills

  • Strong communication and presentation skills both with large groups and one-on-one

  • Relationship/consultative sales skills

  • Able to establish rapport and credibility quickly with an audience
