BMO Financial Group Team Lead, Standby Letters of Credit and Guarantees in Ontario, Canada
Assist the manager in leading and developing the Standby Letters of Credit and Guarantee Team including performance management and overall responsibility for group productivity.Ensure adherence to Uniform Rules governing letters of credit and guarantees as well as government regulatory requirements, AML and Bank Policies and Procedures requirements always meeting the established Business Partner Agreements. Ensure adherence to key operational controls through internal audit and control procedures. Provide technical expertise to line of business and customers and act as subject matter expert for trade related and operations matters. Organize and manage workflow through document management queues on TPS system to meet deadlines and service level agreements.
Leadand develop Standby Letters of Credit and Guarantee Team, including responsibility for their collective performance.Work closely with the other Team Lead to maximize resources and efficiency.
Responsibilities include processing trade finance transactions within rigorous timelines while adhering to rules and regulatory requirements including AML always ensuring that daily compliance with pre-established Business Partner Agreements is met.
Verification and release responsibilities within authorized discretion, verification and resolution of correspondence queriesalways ensuring that daily compliance with pre-established Business Partner Agreements is met.
Ensure adherence to Uniform Rules governing documentary credits, as well as government regulatory requirements.
Ensure adherence to key operational controls through internal audit and control procedures.
Handle highly complex transactions and disputes.
Assist manager in assigning authority levels ensuring they are aligned with complexity of transactions.
Promote team effectiveness through purposeful focus on doing what is important to build a team and maintain a positive spirit and collaborative dynamic
Assist in communicating compelling vision and secure business unit’s “buy-in” regarding mission and goals.
Establish an environment where members actively contribute creative suggestions for the success of the unit.
Eliminate barriers so that team can work through challenges and become increasingly effective, including cross-functional teams.
Encourage team to identify refinements to processes and initiate best practice activities.
Provide technical expertise to internal and external customers and act as SME for your group.
Manage and organize workflows through Document Management queues on TPS to meet deadlines and established Business Partner Agreements.
Assume some roles and responsibilities during manager’s absence. Host huddle meeting at least once a week.
Knowledge and Skills:
Sound technical competence in all aspects of letters of credit preferably all trade finance products .
Sound knowledge of ICC Uniform Rules for letters of credit including ISBP, ISP98, URDG, INCOTERMS etc.…
Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of International Banking, including international payment methods, systems and settlement practices.
Comprehension of general banking practices and the laws/regulations governing financial institutions.
At least five years of experience in Global Trade Operations
Ability to lead and contribute to a high performance team.
Flexible in working hours and able to cover non-US working days in a short rotation list
Sound P.C. skills.
Good understanding of Bank’s products, services, organization structure and interrelationships.
Promote effective interaction with internal and external customers.
Operates in high pressure, high volume, deadline driven production environment
