Senior Frontend Software Engineer


We are seeking an enthusiastic Web Developer to work in our growing Intranet Team; you’ll be working on our Corporate Intranet which is central to the success of our company’s business. In 2016 we are embarking on a complete redesign of the current architecture using the latest web technologies. Initially task is to build a solution to extend our current capability, and then to replace it. You will be involved in working on over 70 applications and over 300 user content sites, across all of our business channels. You’ll play a key role in delivering client satisfaction by responding to their enhancement requests and delivering new solutions. It is a rewarding & meaningful role working alongside some high-calibre developers. You will become part of our passionate, creative and always busy development team with responsibilities that include:

  • Working with business stake holders to translating functional requirements into robust and efficient code

Essential skills & experience

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of three years commercial development for websites (HTML/HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, PHP).

  • Have experience/work knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks.

  • Demonstrate experience in web application development using relational databases as well NoSQL , also familiarity with Java and Java middleware platforms would also be an advantage.

  • Be organised, self-motivated and ambitious with a desire to enhance and maintain high-performing front-end websites supported by technically challenging back-end solutions.

  • Have excellent communication skills.

Desirable skills & experience

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have HTML / CSS and JavaScript experience, along with a good understanding of browser compliance issues, adaptive UI’s, SEO and accessibility standards.

  • Demonstrate experience of using version control systems e.g. Git, CVS, Subversion.

  • Have a working understanding of Windows Server, IIS 8, Linux/Red Hat, and Tomcat configuration.

  • Experience of Amazon AWS EC2 services

  • Experience of working with and configuring search engines (Google/Solr/Elastic).

  • Exposure or working with tracking and analytics software such as Adobe Site Catalyst, Google Analytics

  • Exposure to any Tag Management Systems (TMS) such as Google Tag Manager, Adobe Dynamic Tag Manager.

About the role

In 2016 we are looking to start replacing our current Intranet and this is a great opportunity to be part of a team to shape the future. The role will require you to be a key member of building a new ground breaking intranet system, there will be a small amount of development work on the existing system on an ad-hoc basis for support requests and small planned projects which vary in size from a quick change to a few days duration, with tasks including:

  • Web using Classic ASP application development.

  • HTML/CSS changes.

  • Assisting with providing time estimates for tasks.

  • Working with other disciplines including testing, design, and UI developers.

The Development Technical Lead will work closely with you, prioritising workload and liaising with business clients, however you will need to successfully communicate your technical expertise to inform your Manager and the client of progress and achievements.
