The Machinery Technician II:

  • Installs, maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, and physical structures in commercial and/or industrial establishments; estimates material and labor requirements, prepares cost estimates, keeps records and makes reports

  • Follows specifications, blueprints, manuals, and schematic drawings, using hand tools, power tools, hoist, crane, and measuring and testing instruments

  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine

  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts following specifications and blueprints, using precision measuring instruments and hand tools

  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery using spray, brushes, and grease gun

  • Lays out, assembles, installs and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment

  • Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators and related equipment

  • May install machinery and equipment according to blueprints and other specifications

  • Troubleshoots CNC machinery electrical/mechanical problems

  • May set up and operate machine tools (lathe, grinder, drill and milling machine) to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures and/or tools

  • May operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts

  • Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machinery and the building or grounds as required

  • Conducts weekly inspection to the Hazardous Waste Accumulation Area

  • Uses advanced trades mathematics together with complicated drawings and specifications involving thorough technical skill knowledge and application of basic theory

  • Communicates any observations related to EHS to Facilities Manager and EHS&S

  • Serves as liaison with waste handlers; Sends shipping document to EHS&S

  • Attends DOT , RCRA and HAZWOPER and other relative trainings


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Certificate of completion from college or technical school preferred

  • 1+ years of related experience and training or combination of education and experience required

  • Light electrical/electronic/mechanical background required

  • Ability to troubleshoot all types of CNC Machinery & PLC required

  • Must have light industrial electrical knowledge; 480 V, 3 Phases – 208Y/120 V, 3 Phase Power experience required

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing required

  • Must be organized, resourceful and able to prioritize

  • Documentation management skills required as part of validation exercise

  • Ability to read technical documents and extract information for entry into a computerized database required

  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques required

  • Knowledge of specific computerized maintenance management systems as applied to scheduling, reporting, inventory control and procurement required

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in the resolution of difficult and/or stressful scheduling issues required

  • Personal computer proficiency required

  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of this job which includes close vision, standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, listening, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and climbing or balancing; Must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds

  • Must be able to work 7:00am – 3:00pm Monday – Friday with the flexibility to work during emergencies which may include off hours including weekends

  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 10%
